Final Stats (.pdf Format)

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Junior Debbie Ohl slammed a career-high 17 kills to lift Angelo State over Lone Star Conference foe Incarnate Word, 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-15) Thursday night in San Antonio. The 'Belles extended their winning streak to seven games and have won 10 consecutive conference matches.

Ohl knocked down 17 kills on 31 attempts and committed just one attack error to hit .516 in the match. The Hutchinson, Kan., native also contributed a couple of digs, a pair of assists and two total blocks. Freshman Kaelen Valdez led the Angelo State (14-10, 10-1 LSC) defense with 18 digs and four total blocks. Libero Caroline Cleveland recorded 17 digs to tie her season-high, while junior Kayla Smith recorded a season-high of her own, when she tallied 13 digs in the contest. Setter Alex Woolsey registered 38 assists and nine digs in the victory.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair as the Cardinals (8-11, 5-6 LSC) matched the 'Belles point for point. The two teams traded leads on five occasions and evened the score 11 times. With the final tie coming on a Rambelle miscue to knot the score at 21, it looked like Incarnate Word might take the first set, but a Valdez kill gave Angelo State its final lead of the game. The 'Belles closed the set on a 4-0 run and took set one, 25-21.

Angelo State came out swinging in the second set, quickly taking an 8-3 advantage. After a Cardinal timeout, Incarnate Word went on a 10-1 run to turn the tables on the 'Belles and take a 12-9 lead. The Rambelles battled back, but the Cardinals stayed close giving the fans a repeat of the rally that occurred in the first set. The two squads flip-flopped points and eventually found themselves in a 25-25 deadlock. With the set on the line, Smith took matters into her own hands and knocked down back-to-back kills to give the 'Belles a 27-25 win.

The third and final set was all ASU as the 'Belles held the hosts to a mere .020 hitting percentage. After breaking an early 3-3 tie, the Rambelles led the rest of the set. The 'Belles forced the Cardinals into two timeouts and posted a .283 attack percentage in the third set. Angelo State closed the book on Incarnate Word with a final of 25-15.

Incarnate Word was led defensively by Spencer Ladd, who posted a match-high 21 digs, and Lydia Werchan, who recorded 17 digs. Offensively, Stephanie Bonura led the Cardinals with nine kills while hitting .444.

The Rambelles will be back in action Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., when they play St. Mary's in a non-conference match in San Antonio. The 'Belles resume conference action Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m., when they travel to Kingsville, to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville.
