Final Stats (.pdf Format)

KINGSVIILE, Texas –
For the second day in a row, freshman Kaelen Valdez notched a double-double to lead Angelo State to victory. The 'Belles defeated Lone Star Conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville, 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-22), Saturday afternoon in Kingsville, Texas. The Rambelles have now won nine consecutive matches which is the team's longest winning streak since they won 14 in a row to close out the 1992 season.

Valdez recorded 10 kills and 15 digs en route to her team-leading ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Gibson led the Angelo State (16-10, 11-1 LSC) offense with 15 kills, four total blocks and hit .444 in the contest. Setter Alex Woolsey tallied 39 assists, four digs and a service ace for the 'Belles.

The first set was all ASU as the Rambelles took a 2-1 lead and never looked back. The Angelo State defense of Valdez, Caroline Cleveland (nine digs) and Kayla Smith (nine digs) held Texas A&M-Kingsville (10-14, 4-8 LSC) to a .154 hitting percentage in the set. The 'Belles offense knocked down 14 kills and hit .353 to take the first set by a score of 25-16.

After dropping the first set by nine points, the Javelinas put up a fight in the second set. Texas A&M-Kingsville rallied from a two point deficit (5-3) to take a three point lead (11-8) forcing Angelo State to call a timeout. Following the break in action, the 'Belles put together a rally of their own and evened the score at 18 taking advantage of back-to-back TAMUK attack errors. The conference rivals battled, trading the lead five times before Valdez put the game away with two consecutive kills. The Rambelles won set two, 25-23.

Down two sets to none, the Javelinas came out swinging in the third set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead. The 'Belles, however, were set on earning their 13th sweep of the season as they went on an 8-2 run to take a 9-6 lead on a Smith kill. With the two squads matching each other point for point, it was hard to tell who would win the third set. With the score knotted at 17, junior Debbie Ohl stepped up for the Rambelles and spiked the ball over the TAMUK front line to give the 'Belles the lead for good. Angelo State pushed its lead to as many as four points (24-20) and eventually pulled out a 25-22 victory.

Texas A&M-Kingsville was led by Amanda Yeager who recorded a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs, while Bethany Friesenhahn led the offense with 16 kills. Friesenhahn also contributed seven digs and a pair of block assists.

Angelo State returns to the Junell Center to close out the regular-season next week. The 'Belles will play host to conference foes Eastern New Mexico Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. and West Texas A&M Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. Live stats and live video are available on AngeloSports.com.
