Belles Set For West Texas A&M Tourney

Angelo State to play St. Mary’s and Metro State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will travel to Canyon this weekend for two games at the West Texas A&M Tournament. The Belles will play St. Mary's this Friday, Nov. 25, and then again on Saturday, Nov. 26, versus Metro State. Both games are set to tip-off at 4 p.m.

The Belles (1-2) have lost their last two contests including a 59-47 defeat on Tuesday at the hands of St. Edwards. The shorthanded Belles had to deal with foul trouble as three starters picked up four fouls versus the Hilltoppers. ASU also went cold from the outside, shooting 2-of-18 from three-point range.

Paige Weishuhn had her first double-double of the season versus St. Edward's with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Weishuhn leads the Belles in both categories with 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Lauren Holt, who led the Belles with 13 points on Tuesday, is second in scoring at 12 per game.

Angelo State holds a 25-18 series advantage versus St. Mary's, but the Lady Rattlers won last season's meeting over the Belles, 60-52, in San Angelo. St. Mary's (0-6) is led by sophomore Jackie Edwards and her 14.0 points per game while freshman forward Morgan Pullins is second at 11.8 points per contest.

ASU will play its tournament finale on Saturday against fifth-ranked Metro State (2-0). The Belles are 1-1 all-time against the Roadrunners with the last meeting coming in 1991. Alyssa Benson paces Metro State in scoring at 17.5 points per contest.

Angelo State will return home on Nov. 30 for a matchup with Texas Woman's. That contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
