Top-Seeded Belles Advance to Semifinals With Sweep of UIW

SAN ANGELO – Maddie Huth had 16 kills and five blocks to help lead the Angelo State volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) Lone Star Conference Championship quarterfinal win over Incarnate Word on Thursday at the Junell Center.

The Belles (26-4) advance to the semifinals where they'll play against Texas Woman's at 7:30 p.m. on Friday following Tarleton State and West Texas A&M who will play each other in the day's first match at 5 p.m. TWU was a 3-1 winner over Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, while WT eliminated Abilene Christian and TSU survived a five-set match against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Thursday's first match.

Angelo State improved to 31-10 all-time in LSC tournament play and to 12-0 at home this seaosn with the win over UIW and advances to the semifinals round for the fourth straight year. The Belles were tested against the Cardinals throughout the night, but never let a set get out of reach. ASU hit well below its average with a .175 percentage for the match, but limited UIW to a .116 hitting percentage.


Shelby Wilt led the Belles with 23 digs on the night, while Kaelen Valdez added 17 digs and eight kills. Shelbi Goode contributed 12 digs in her first postseason game as a Belle and Alex Woolsey had 46 assists and 11 digs a night after being named the LSC's Setter of the Year. Katie MacLeay had 15 digs and Arielle Bond added three kills and four digs.

Kelci Lind led UIW with 10 kills and 22 digs, while Beth Soukup had 20 digs and six kills.
