SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball will play its first home game in a month as Midwestern State comes to town tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Belles are 6-5 overall and 3-2 in Lone Star Conference play after falling to Cameron, 70-61, on Wednesday. The Mustangs are 8-3 and 3-2 in LSC play. MSU defeated Abilene Christian, 76-62, on Thursday night. The two teams split the season series last year with each winning on their home court.
ASU has led the LSC in field goal percentage defense, rebounding offense and defensive rebounds for a majority of the season. The Belles are also second in the league in scoring defense, 3-point field goal percentage, blocked shots and defensive rebound percentage.
Sophomore
Haylee Oliver is averaging a double-double on the season with 14.0 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game and she leads the Belles in both categories. She has recorded five consecutive double-doubles on the season. Oliver is fifth in the league in scoring, third in rebounding, third in assists, third free throw percentage, fourth in 3-point field goal percentage, tied for first in defensive rebounds and leads the league in minutes played.
The sophomore has help as
Leah LeMaire (12.9),
Lauren Holt (11.5) and
Cassi Stegall (10.0) are all scoring in double digits this season. All four players are in the top 25 in the LSC is scoring per game. Holt is leads the league with 2.5 blocked shots per game. The junior is fifth in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage, fourth in offensive rebounds and fifth in defensive rebounds.
Kristi Degelia is leading the Mustangs scoring 16.1 point per game and is the LSC's leading scorer. Andrea Carter is the LSC's second leading rebounder at 10.8 per game.
The Belles are 2-1 at home while Midwestern State is 3-3 on the road.
ASU head coach Sally Walling Brooks will look for career victory 399 on Saturday. She has 243 victories while at ASU and is the program's all-time winningest coach. Brooks is in her 22
nd season as a head coach while being in her 12
th at Angelo State. She coached 10 years at Incarnate Word prior to ASU.
