LAWTON, Okla. – Like last season, Cameron opened with a win over Angelo State in the first game of the series. Now it's time to see if the Rams can regroup and repeat what they did last year by winning the next three to take the series.

Cameron scored seven unanswered runs after ASU had a 3-1 lead going to the bottom of the fourth inning to secure an 8-3 Lone Star Conference win over the Rams (27-16, 11-10 LSC) on Friday at McCord Field. The Rams committed four errors in the game and were shut out by CU (12-26, 6-16 LSC) pitcher Drew Reidt in the final five innings of the game.

“We have to start coming out with a sense of urgency and quit giving games away,” said ASU shortstop Christian Summers said. “We understood that this is a big series, but we didn't play like that today. Coach (Kevin) Brooks always tells us that if we can have one or less errors we'll win the games and we have to buckle down and do that to help our pitchers out.”

Reidt (3-3) struck out five and scattered eight hits in his complete-game victory over the Rams who are now 6-6 all-time against the Aggies in Lawton. The Aggie pitcher also worked through hitting four batters in the game.

Summers led the Rams with two hits, while Luke Solomon had a second-inning RBI single to left field to start Angelo State scoring. ASU tacked on its other two runs in the fourth inning after Andrew LaCombe led off with a single and Hunter Choate and Tyler Coughenour were hit by pitches. LaCombe came in to score when Solomon was hit by a pitch and Coughenour scored on a David Goggin fielder's choice.

Cameron quickly erased the ASU two-run lead with two runs in the home-half of the fourth on two hits and taking advantage of three errors. The Aggies would tack on another run on a Nick Smith home run in the fifth and then score three runs on four hits and an error in the seventh. Brandon Raidy highlighted CU's seventh with a two-RBI single down the left-field line.

ASU junior Jake Albert (4-4) received the loss after giving up three earned runs in six innings of work in his third start of the season. Albert struck out three and didn't allow a walk in the game. Bryant Rutledge allowed two runs in relief, while James Conlee and Travis Stavinoha gave up one run each.

Ryan Greer, Lee Neumann Coughenour and Goggin also had hits for the Rams.

Angelo State managed two hits and loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning, but were unable to score. ASU finished the game with 10 runners left on base.

The Rams and Aggies will resume their series at 1 p.m. on Saturday with a doubleheader back at McCord Field. Jake Feckley (7-3) is scheduled to start the first game of the day with Mike Weatherly (4-3) to start the nightcap.
