Belles Welcome Lubbock Christian on Monday

SAN ANGELO –The Angelo State women's basketball team will look for its first win of the season on Monday night as Lubbock Christian comes to the Junell Center for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.

The Belles are 0-3 but have lost the last two by less than six and eight points each. ASU is scoring 60.0 points per game but allowing 69.3 through three games. As a team, the Belles are shooting 40.5-percent and 72.5-percent from the free throw line. ASU will look to limit turnovers after giving up 22.7 per game in three games.

ASU is coming off a 64-56 loss to UTPB last Tuesday. The Belles outshot UTPB 40-percent to 33-percent but committed a season-high 26 turnovers. UTPB was able to outrebound the Belles 46-34 including 26 on the offensive end.

Jasmine Caston continues to lead the Belles in scoring with 15.3 points per game but was limited to just seven points against UT-Permian Basin. The sophomore leads ASU with five steals. Jackie Patterson has scored 10.0 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.0 points per game. The senior is tops on the team with seven assists.

Jasmine Patterson cooled off her scoring with four points after scoring 14 against Southern Arkansas. She is averaging 8.7 points per game and leads the Belles with 5.3 rebounds per game. Amanda Weaver scored a season-high 12 points against UTPB hitting four-of-six from the 3-point line.

Freshman Shauna Coleman had her best game of the year with 13 points and four rebounds. She is scoring 7.0 points per game and grabbing 4.7 rebounds.  Elaine Herrera also had her best game with nine points, three rebounds and three assists versus UTPB.

Lubbock Christian is 2-1 on the season and led by Steve Gomez who is in his 12th season at LCU. The Lady Chaps are scoring 80.7 points per game while limiting teams to 74.3. Haley Burton leads the team by scoring 19.3 points per game. Three others are scoring in double figures in Haley Fowler (12.3), Tess Bruffey (11.3) and Bailey Haist (10.7).

The last time ASU and LCU played was in an exhibition game in 2012 with the Belles lost 83-65. The all-time series is in LCU's favor 5-3. The last ASU win came in 2000 in Lubbock.
