Belles Drop Regular Season Finale 83-67 to Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE – The Angelo State women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale 83-67 to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.

The Belles (13-13, 7-9 LSC) shot 43.5-percent for the game but struggled in the first half making 33.3-percent from the field. The Javelinas (11-15, 6-10 LSC) shot lights out making 57.9-percent from the field including 64.5-percent in the first half.

The first half was all Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Javelinas opened the game on a 9-0 run and extended their lead to 22-5 with just 12:34 to go in the first half. The Belles would go on a 7-2 run to cut it to 24-11 at the 8:42 mark.

Texas A&M-Kingsville ended the half on a 25-9 run to take a 49-20 lead in at halftime. TAMUK scored 22 points off 15 first half ASU turnovers.

The second half was all Belles. ASU hit 51.4-percent of their shots including 58.8-percent from the 3-point line.  

TAMUK opened the second half with a 12-2 run to go up 61-25 before ASU answered. Haylee Oliver hit a 3-pointer to spark a 14-5 run to make it 72-39. Amanda Weaver hit two of her seven threes in the run.

Down 72-39 with 9:57 to go in the game ASU would go on a 24-6 run to cut the Javelinas advantage to 78-63 with 2:12 to go but would get no closer. TAMUK pulled away for the 83-67 victory.

Weaver led the Belles off the bench with a career high 23 points on 8-of-23 shooting. She went 7-of-12 from behind the mark and it is the third-most 3-pointers in single game in ASU history. Karli Kellermeier added 11 points.

Four Javelinas scored in double figures with Lauren Jay leading the way with 13 points.

The Belles will play Midwestern State on Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m. in the first round of the LSC Basketball Championships in Allen.
