Belles Set for Road Game with Texas A&M-Kingsville

SAN ANGELO –The Angelo State women's basketball team will travel to Kingsville for a Lone Star Conference game with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Belles are 5-12 on the season and 0-7 in the LSC. ASU is scoring 63.3 points per game and hitting 39.3-percent from the field. Angelo State shoots 32.8-percent from the 3-point line compared to 30.8-percent for opponents and out rebounds teams 39.9 to 38.6 rebounds per game. The Belles are also limiting teams to just 39.1-percent from the field which is No. 3 in the LSC. ASU is 1-5 on the road with the win coming at McMurry.

Amanda Weaver, the Belles leading scorer, is scoring 10.9 points per game on the season but has increased her scoring in conference play. The junior is averaging 13.0 points per game in conference with five games in double digits and two games of scoring at least 20 points. She has made 18 three pointers during conference play and is No. 2 in the LSC with a 3-point field goal percentage of 41.3-percent. Weaver leads the team with 40 assists and in free throw percentage at 82.7-percent.

Diamalises Rivera has steadily become a scoring threat for ASU. The junior is scoring 6.7 points per game but has increased her production to 10.3 points per game. The last time out, Rivera scored a season-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds against Cameron. She has two double-digit games in the last three games.

Freshman Shauna Coleman is third on the team in scoring at 7.6 points per game. She leads the Belles with 5.5 rebounds per game. The Lipan native is averaging 6.7 points per game and has back-to-back double-digit scoring games with 13 and 15 points against Midwestern State and Cameron, respectively. Coleman is tops on the team in offensive rebounds with 40 on the season and has one double-double on the season that came against Arlington Baptist.

Fellow freshman KeAnna Kelly has increased her output. Kelly is averaging 5.0 points per game while scoring at least six points in three of her last five games. She scored a career-high 15 points against Texas A&M-Commerce. She has been a threat from the 3-point line as all five of her made three pointers have come in conference play.

Leila Jdily-Ezzad is scoring 4.7 points per game in seven games this season. She has dished out 16 assists and made two steals. The junior is averaging 20.0 minutes per game and grabs 4.0 rebounds per game. The 16 assists are tied for the Belles lead during conference play.

Michelle Rosewell has started 15 games this season and is second on the team with 34 assists. Her scoring has increased to 3.9 points per game in conference. She scored a career-high 13 points at Midwestern State. It was her first double-digit scoring game of the season.

Kietta Saunders has seen an increase in playing time during conference. She was averaging 9.6 minutes per game but now averages 10.9 over the last seven games. The freshman is averaging 1.6 points per game against LSC opponent and 1.4 points per game on the season. Her season high of seven points came against West Texas A&M.

Minja Savic and Elaine Herrera have both seen action off the bench in all seven conference games. Savic plays in 7.7 minutes per game and is averaging 1.7 points per game. Herrera is averaging 8.0 minutes per game and has dished out three assists.

The Javelinas are 0-17 on the season and 0-7 in the LSC under first year head coach Wade Scott. The last Texas A&M-Kingsville win was against the Belles last season in Kingsville. Texas A&M-Kingsville scored 53.8 points per game while allowing 68.9 points. Micah Weaver leads the Javelinas scoring 10.9 points per game. TAMUK is No. 3 in the LSC in blocked shots at 3.06 per game.

The Belles lead the all-time series with Texas A&M-Kingsville 42-28 and have a 7-3 record in the last 10 games. The last win in Kingsville for ASU was on Feb. 27, 2013. The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
