No. 8/10 Rams Gear Up for Holiday Hoops Classic

SAN ANGELO – The No. 8/10 ranked Angelo State men's basketball team travels to the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada, to partake in its second consecutive Holiday Hoops Classic on December 18 and 19.

The Rams, who are currently boasting an undefeated 6-0, 1-0 LSC record, will begin the weekend with a familiar face from its 2015 trip to the Classic in Rollins and will then move on to face Simon Fraser out of British Columbia, CA.  The Rams are one of only 14 teams on the national level that remain undefeated at this point. Upon entering the two-day classic in Vegas, the Angelo State defense is currently ranked within the top 10 nationally in both defensive rebounds per game (5) and blocked shots per game (7).

Sunday's match-up with Rollins will mark the second time in program history that the Rams will face the Tars. In the last meeting between the two squads, ASU downed the then No. 16 ranked Tars 87-76. Rollins will enter the game with a 6-3 record thus far, and will be facing one more opponent prior to the Holiday Hoops Classic. This match-up will be held at the South Point Hotel.

On Monday evening the Rams will partake in its second game of the classic as it matches up with Simon Fraser out of British Columbia, Canada. The Clan will be looking to recover from a four game losing streak and are currently 2-6 on the season. This will be the first time in history that the two teams match up.  This game will take place at a different location than Sunday's game, with the action taking place at the Doolittle Center.

Senior Quay King continues to lead the squad's attack on the court as he put away a season-high 26 points in the Rams last road game against Midwestern State. He is currently averaging 20.7 points per contest so far this year which leads the conference. With an average of 3.8 three-point field goals per game, the Atlanta, Georgia native is sitting 12th in the nation in the category.

Angelo State will also look towards Lorenzo Dillard and Prince Foster to help distribute the rock and produce points. Dillard is second on the team averaging 15.8 points per game. The point guard naturally leads ASU with 31 total assist on the season which averages 5.2 assists per game. On the defensive side of the ball the junior has marked a team third 4.7 boards per competition. Foster, meanwhile is third on the squad scoring an average of 13.3 points per game and is second grabbing an average of 5.2 rebounds per game. He currently leads the team with 10 total steals on the season.

Thomas Tshikaya and Justin Hollins will anchor the Rams stout defense. Tshikaya is averaging a healthy 9.7 boards per game and had assisted the offense with 9.7 points of production per game. He is second on the ASU roster with eight blocked shots. Hollins continues to lead the Lone Star Conference and the team with 14 total blocked shots to date. This gives the newcomer a 3.5 blocks per game average.

Adding depth to the ASU bench will be Michael Thomas, DeVonte Pratt and Gustavs Puhovs. Puhovs is currently averaging seven points per match up and has totaled 17 total boards this season. Pratt follows closely behind with a 6.2 point per game average.  The senior leads the Rams from inside the arc with a .586 shooting percentage.   Completing the group, Thomas is averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and is currently boasting a .500 shooting percentage from close range.

Finally, becoming eligible for the first time this season, transfer Brandon Williams will look to start making his impact on the court for the Rams during the Monday match up with Simon Fraser. As a sophomore at UT Arlington, Williams averaged 3.2 points per game on 55 percent from field while pulling down 3 rebounds in 12 minutes per contest. During his two years at UTA he made 4 starts and recorded a career high of 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

Both Las Vegas match-ups will be broadcasted live on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
