Rams Announce 2016-17 Newcomers

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball team has announced its signees who will begin play with the team for the 2016-2017 season. The Rams, who are coming off a Sweet Sixteen appearance last season, brought in a mixture of young talent and experienced transfers to go along with the seven players returning from last year's team.

Kevin Booze (5'10,  177, JR)
As a sophomore at Lamar University, Booze was the team's second leading scorer at 9.3 point per game. He also led the team with 114 assists and 36 steals.   Booze registered double digit scoring performances on 20 different occasions in his two years at Lamar.  As a freshman he scored a career high 35 points against Abilene Christian.
ASU head basketball coach Cinco Boone on Booze: "  Kevin is transferring from Lamar University in the Southland Conference.  Coach Kaerwer did a great job of recruiting Kevin to ASU.  He is originally from Dallas and was one of the top 50 players in the state his senior year of high school.  Then he was very productive at Lamar where he averaged 9 ppg and 4 assists per game in the 15-16 season as a sophomore.  He has a set of wheels on him, can score and pass, and is a very capable defender on the perimeter.  We are excited we get to coach him for two years."

Brandon Conwright (5'10, 145, FR)
Conwright comes to ASU from Kennedale high school. As a senior he averaged 22 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 47 percent from three on a school record 107 makes. He also averaged 5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.  Conwright was chosen to the Class 4A All- Region Team along with the District MVP. Kennedale finished the year at 24-13.
Boone on Conwright: "Brandon is coming to ASU from Kennedale High School outside of the Metroplex area.  He has got such a high ceiling and is going to be a great four year player at ASU.  He was a ranked player in the state of Texas during his senior season and always played on successful teams in high school.  Brandon is a gym rat and I cannot wait to see his growth and development in the days ahead.  Coach Lewis did a great job of recruiting Brandon and we are very glad he is here."

Lorenzo Dillard (6'0, 176, JR)
At Dodge City Community College Dillard helped the Conquistadors to a 22-9 record while averaging 16.5 points per game and shooting 39.4 percent from behind the arc. He also dished out 4.8 assists per game while grabbing 4.5 rebounds. Dillard scored a career high 38 points against Trinity Valley, who at the time was the number one junior college team in the country. He was selected as a member of the First Team All-Conference Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
Boone on Dillard: "Zo is transferring from Dodge City Community College in Kansas.  The much-respected Jerry Mullens recruiting service had him ranked as the #1 point guard in the country.  Zo has great ball skills, great vision as a passer, and it is difficult to keep him out of the paint to make plays for himself or others.  He is a tough guard and is really good off of the pick-n-roll.  Coach Wright did a great job of getting Zo to ASU and we are looking forward to coaching him the next two seasons."

Caleb Henry (6'6, 176, FR)
As a senior at Southland Christian School, Henry averaged 13 points per game to go along with 9 rebounds.
Boone on Henry: "Caleb is coming to ASU from Southland Christian High School in Orlando, Florida.  Coach Lewis did a great job of finding Caleb and spotting a young man with a great work ethic and good upside.  Caleb has legit size and soft shooting touch.  He has to adjust to the speed of the game at this level but with his work ethic, there is no question he will get it done.  We are excited to coach Caleb."

Justin Hollins (6'9, 207, SR)
As a junior at Cal State Bakersfield, Hollins helped the Roadrunners to a 24-9 record while earning the program's first ever trip to the NCAA Division 1 Tournament. In 12 minutes per games he broke the program's single season block record by tallying 60 shots, as this was also good enough for second in the WAC. Hollins also averaged 1.7 point and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field.
Boone on Hollins: "Justin is transferring from Cal State-Bakersfield where he helped them reach the NCAA tournament last season.  He had a team high 96 blocks on the season for them.  Justin has over a seven-foot wingspan, is freakishly athletic, and is going to be an instant highlight that ASU fans will love to watch.  Coach Lewis did a great job of recruiting Justin and we are thankful he chose ASU as his destination for his final season."

E.J. Hubbard (6'3, 190, JR)
Hubbard played his junior season at Adams State University.  As a Grizzley he started 17 games while averaging 8.9 points per contest while collecting 4.4 rebounds. Hubbard scored a career high 24 points on Midwestern State.
Boone on Hubbard: "EJ is transferring from Adams State University in Colorado.  We played Adams State first game of the season last year and we were impressed with EJ and his shooting ability.  We were excited to get him to ASU because we were familiar with him and he is originally from San Antonio and it was a good fit for the both of us.  We are glad he chose ASU as his destination for his final senior season."

Cornelius Hudson (6'6, 192, JR)
Hudson arrives at ASU from Wake Forest University. As a member of the Demon-Deacons he started 11 games in his two year stint, while averaging 7.6 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. Hudson scored in double figures 18 times including a career-high 22 points against Pitt.
Boone on Hudson: "Cornelius is transferring from Wake Forest University.  He  was a late signee for us and we are very excited about him as a person and player.  He averaged 8 points and three assists per game as a sophomore in a very good ACC conference.  He is extremely long, athletic, and can play multiple positions on the floor.  He can make plays for himself or others and can really defend on the perimeter as well as be physical on the interior.  We are excited about what he brings to our team and to coach him for the next two years.

DeVaughn Jenkins (6'6, 200, JR)
As a sophomore at the College of Central Florida, Jenkins scored 11.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field while averaging 5.3 rebounds.  He scored a career-high 25 against Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Boone on Jenkins: "Devaughn is transferring from Central Florida College in Ocala, Florida.  Devaughn is a very bouncy and active athlete that plays above the rim.  He is tough, defends on both perimeter and interior, and attacks the glass hard on both ends.  He also has good skills as a face up forward and will be a tough person to defend at his position.  Coach Lewis did a great job of recruiting Devaughn and thankful he chose ASU.

Andre Nikita (5'10, 183, JR)
Nikita, the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and an NJCAA Second Team All-American, led the ACCAC in scoring during his sophomore season at Arizona Western College. He averaged 18.9 points per game and set a career high with 36 points against Pima. He recorded 5.5 rebounds per game along with 4.4 assists . As a sophomore, Nikita led Arizona Western to a 21-10 record.
Boone on Nikita: "Dre is a junior college All-American guard who is transferring from Arizona Western College.  Coach Lewis did an outstanding job of identifying Dre and recruiting him here to ASU.  Dre is a strong, physical guard who has a high IQ and really thinks the game and can execute the game plan.  He makes good decisions with the basketball and is a willing passer but has the ability to score in different ways.  We are looking forward to coaching him."

Steven Price (5'8, 137, FR)
Price had a three year varsity career at San Marcos High School. As a senior he scored 14.9 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game while leading his team to a 24-10 record.
Boone on Price: "Steven is coming to ASU from San Marcos High School.  Steven is the shortest player on our roster but he might have the most hops of any of them.  He is shifty, shoots the ball well, and is very coachable.  He is also in the gym all the time every day and has bought into our culture.  We look forward to seeing his development and are glad to have him part of the Ram Fam."

Michael Thomas (6'10, 240, JR)
At nearly seven feet tall, Thomas averaged 6.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game at Kilgore College during the 2014-2015 season.  He posted a season-high of 17 points on two occasions while grabbing a career high 13 rebounds in a game. During his two years as a member of the Rangers, Thomas helped them to a 45-16 record.
Boone on Thomas: "Michael is a tough and physical inside presence who is transferring from Kilgore College.  Our staff had seen Michael play in both high school and junior college and always knew we would love the opportunity to coach him.  He plays with a lot of passion, is a tough post defender/rim protector, and scores the ball well around the basket.  We are excited he chose ASU."

Brandon Williams (6'10, 214, JR)
As a sophomore at UT Arlington, Williams averaged 3.2 points per game on 55 percent from field while pulling down 3 rebounds in 12 minutes per contest. During his two years at UTA he made four starts and record a career high of nine points, eight rebounds, and six blocks.
Boone on Williams: "Brandon is transferring from a great program at UT-Arlington.  He is a great athlete, has skill for his size, very coachable, and has the ability to snatch a lot of rebounds.  He has a great approach to the game by wanting to learn and get better every single day.  We have high expectations for Brandon and are excited we get to coach him for two years."
