SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team returns home on Saturday, January 28 for a rematch with Texas A&M – Kingsville at 4 p.m. in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Rams, who dropped its last game against Javelinas on the road, are currently sitting at 12-5, 4-5 LSC. The ASU offense currently fourth in the LSC as it is second in the conference knocking down 48 percent of its field goals and a 38 percent of its 3-pointers. The defense enters another week of being ranked in top 10 nationally in both blocked shots per game (7th), defensive rebounds per game (3rd), field-goal percentage defense (5th) and 3- point field goal defense (3rd).
The Javelinas, who took its last game against the Rams, 67-53, are 11-7 overall and 4-5 in the Lone Star Conference. TAMUK is now rolling on a three game win streak. The Rams now trail the Javelinas by two games in the all-time series, 50-52.
Quay King will head the ASU offense as he sits second in the LSC scoring an average of 20.3 points per game. The senior guard has marked double-digit points in every game this season for the Rams. The Atlanta native's deep ball has also remained an asset to the Rams arsenal. King leads the nation and the conference with an average of 4.18 3-pointers per game. The guard is also top 10 nationally for total threes sunk and is just nine 3-pointers behind the national leader. He has also aided the defense with 12 total steal and a team third 4.9 boards per game.
Also aiding in the Rams offensive production have been Lorenzo Dillard and DeVonte' Pratt. Dillard, who is second on the team marking 13.9 points per game, also leads the Rams with 4.8 assists from the point guard position. He remains second on the team with 18 pocketed steals on the season. Pratt has been on fire as of late as he co-led the squad with 16 points in the Rams earlier matchup with TAMUK. He is averaging 10.4 points per game and has marked double-digit points in his last six games. The Toledo, Ohio native heads the team's defense with 22 steals this year.
Heading the ASU defense will be Thomas Tshikaya, Brandon Williams and Justin Hollins. Tshikaya has continued to lead ASU's defense with an 8.9 rebounds per game. The senior has also made great contributions to the offensive side of the ball hitting an average of 10.8 points per game. Williams follows pulling down an average of 4.9 blocks per game placing him second on the squad. He has marked eight blocks on the year and has assisted the offense sinking an average of 10 points per game. Completing the group, Hollins has helped the Rams defense maintain the top ten national ranking in blocked shots per game as he leads ASU and the Lone Star Conference with 33 total blocks this season, which averages him 2.2 per game.
Providing depth to ASU will be Napoleon Onyeje Jr. and Chase Riley. Onyeje Jr. continues to have big games for ASU off the bench as his minutes have steadily increased throughout the season. The senior is marking 1.29 assists per game from the point guard position. Riley is currently knocking down 45.2 percent of his sort range shots, 57.1 percent of his 3-balls and 76.9 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.
