SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball team travels Texas A&M -Commerce on Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. and then continues its road trip with a stop at Tarleton State on Saturday, February 11 at 4 p.m. Â Â
The Rams will seek to build off its last win as it enters the two games with a 13-7 overall record and a 7-4 record in the Lone Star Conference. Angelo State continues to sit within the national top 10 in several defensive categories which includes blocked shots per game (6) and defensive boards per game (4). Offensively, the Rams are second in the LSC shooting 35.9 percent from the 3 -point line and third knocking down 47 percent of its short range jumpers.
Texas A&M - Commerce took the last game against the Rams earlier in the season by a score of 89-97 and leads the all-time series 46-43. The Lions will be looking for a rebound after its last 75-62 loss to Eastern New Mexico. TAMUC currently sits third in the conference with a record of 16-6, 8-5 LSC.
Tarleton State is riding a four-game win streak and will enter the weekends matchup after a home game with Texas A&M -Kingsville on Thursday, February 9. The Texans boast a conference best 20-3, 13-2 LSC and are currently sitting in first place in the LSC. TSU downed ASU 92-60 in the last matchup between the two teams. This game will be televised live on ESPN3.
Quay King and DeVonte' Pratt will head up the Rams offensive attack against both the Lions and Texans. King has remained on top of the Rams scoring list as he averages 19.8 points per game. He also sits on top of the conference and is fourth in the nation sinking an average of 3.9 threes per game. Pratt has come on strong in the latter half of the season. The senior is coming off a season high 24 point performance that aided the Rams to a double-figure comeback victory over Midwestern State. He has sunk double-digit points in eight of his last nine games played.
After returning to the court last week, Prince Foster has also regained a prominent role on the squad both on offense and defense. The Miami native has thrown up double-figure in two of his last three games along with adding 13 total boards, five blocks and a pair of steals. The senior also led the team with eight assists in its last game against MSU.
Anchoring the defense will be Thomas Tshikaya, Brandon Williams and Michael Thomas. Tshikaya heads ASU grabbing an average of nine boards per game. He turned in a team high four block and two steal performance against the Midwestern State Mustangs. Offensively, Tshikaya tallies 11 points on average. Williams follows closely behind averaging 4.6 rebounds and 8.7 points per game. Completing the group, Thomas produced his second best game of the season in the Rams last match up. The big man recorded six boards, two steals and two blocks in the game along with scoring a team third 15 points.
Head Coach Cinco Boone could also turn to several other role players to aid the Rams' cause. This list consists of Chase Riley, Napoleon Onyeje Jr. and Shaquan Rhoades. All have seen solid court time this season and have made major contributions to the game when called upon.
