Belles Hit the Road for Pair of Games in New Mexico

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will hit the road for a trip through New Mexico to take on Western New Mexico on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. MST / 6:30 p.m. CST and Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. MST / 3 p.m. CST.

The Belles are 10-4 on the year and 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference after wins over previously ranked No. 2 West Texas A&M and Texas Permian Basin. ASU is No. 1 in the LSC in scoring at 73.1 points per game and outscore opponents by 13.4 points per game. Angelo State is No. 1 in the LSC in free throw percentage (.749), defensive rebounds (28.6) and blocked shots (4.86).

Six Belles are averaging at least 9.9 points per game and three grab at least seven rebounds per game.

De'Anira Moore is the No. 5 scorer in the LSC at 13.6 per game and the No. 2 rebounder at 9.5 per game. She has scored double figures in 11 games and six games of at least 10 rebounds. She is No. 10 nationally and No. 1 in the LSC with 3.3 blocks per game No. 4 in offensive rebounds per game at 5.0 per contest. Moore is trying to become the seventh player ASU single seasons history to average a double-digit rebounds in a season. The last person to accomplish the feat was Tricia Hampton in 1993-94.

Marquita Daniels, the LSC Defensive Player of the Week, is No. 4 nationally in steals per game. She averages 12.1 points per game and leads the team with 46 assists. She has recorded double figures in six straight games and has 11 on the year.

Dezirae Hampton is third on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game. She has scored double figures in 12 of the 14 games including eight straight games. The junior has the fourth most 3-pointers with 20. She has handed out 25 assists and is third on the team in rebounding at 7.3 per game.

Ekiya Gray has made an impact in just seven games with the Belles. The senior is scoring 11.0 points per game and has surpassed double figures in three games.  She is also second on the team in rebounds at 7.7 per game. She has been efficient hitting 51.0 percent from the field.

Madi Greenwood continues to be tops in the nation in free throw percentage. The senior is hitting 93.2 percent of her shots from the charity stripe and is currently No. 4 in Division II. She is second on the team in 3-pointers with 22 on the year while averaging 9.9 points per game. The Kansas native has recorded 28 assists on the year along with nine steals.

Keanna Kelly, the LSC Offensive Player of the Week, was a key contributor off the bench last week scoring in double figures in both games. The senior is averaging 9.9 points per game and leads the team in 3-pointers with 25. She grabs 4.0 rebounds per game to go along with 30 assists and 13 steals.

Kynese Davis, Mikayla Blount, Dearria Watson and Aaliyah Warren have provided key depth off the bench. Davis is coming off a career high 13 point against UTPB. She went five for five from the field and hit one 3-pointer. Blount averages 3.5 points per game and has appeared in all 14 games this season.  Watson has played in eight games and scores 1.9 per game while Warren has seen action in 12 games with 1.7 points per game scoring average.
