FRISCO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will look to advance in the Lone Star Conference tournament and improve on their 22-4 record as they take on Texas Woman's today at 2:30 p.m.
The Belles will be led by all-conference players Marquita Daniels, De'Anira Moore, and Dezirae Hampton. Daniels is coming off a career-high 40 point game and is averaging 17 points, five rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 steals per contest. Moore is averaging 14 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field. Hampton is averaging 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 35 percent from behind the three point line. Maria Delgado also averages double figures in scoring with 10.4. She also records 5.5 rebounds per contest while shooting a team-leading 42 percent from the three point line.
Other strong contributors include Asia Davis, Catara Samuel, Essence Johnson, and Mikayla Blount. Davis is averaging 8.4 point and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting a team-leading 79 percent from the free throw line. Samuel is averaging 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest while providing a strong defensive presence. Johnson averages 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting a team-leading 58 percent from the field, and Blount is averaging 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 35 percent from the three point line.
The Belles outscore their opponents by an average of 18 points a game this season and easily defeated TWU in both games this season. TWU comes into the game with a record of 10-18 (7-13 LSC) and have lost three games in a row.
