Rambelles Fall To Defending Champions, LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team faced off against the defending national champions, Lubbock Christian. Unfortunately, the Chaps proved too much for ASU, defeating the Belles 69-52 in Lubbock.
The Belles fall to an 8-4 record and 5-3 in conference.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • Lubbock Christian jumped to an early 5-1 lead over the Belles in the first quarter.
  • A made three pointer from Megan Guadian cut the Chaparrals lead down to four, 8-4.
  • Another made three pointer from Sawyer Lloyd cut LCU's lead down to just one point, 8-7.
  • Several made jump shots from LCU brought the lead back up to seven, 14-7.
  • A made free throw from De'Anira Moore cut the Chaps lead to 12 points, 8-20.
Second Quarter
  • A made layup from Moore and a made three pointer from Lloyd cut the Chaps lead down to 10, 23-13.
  • Several made jumpers from Moore and Lloyd brought the Belles within 10 points after several made jump shots from LCU, 22-32.
  • A free throw and made jump shot from Catara Samuel alongside a made three pointer brought ASU within four points with a minute left in second quarter, 28-32.
  • With 45 seconds left on the clock, Moore makes a second chance jumper off of an LCU turnover, to bring the Belles within two points, 30-32.
Third Quarter
  • Angelo State started the third quarter off with a made layup from Moore, cutting the Chaps to three, 35-32.
  • Two made free throws from Lloyd cut LCU's lead down to just eight points, 34-42.
  • Three made free throws from Kinley Brown cut the Chaps lead down to 13, the first points that the Belles had scored in almost five minutes, 39-52.
Fourth Quarter
  • A made free throw from Moore starts the fourth quarter off for the Belles, bringing the score to 42-52.
  • A layup from Samuel and two free throws from Moore cut the Chaps lead to just six points, 46-52.
  • Lubbock Christian took control of the fourth quarter with seven minutes left on the clock and defensively held the Belles to eight points for over four minutes, while scoring eight points to pull ahead to a 15 point lead, 48-63.
  • Two jump shots from Lloyd ended the Belles scoreless streak, and brought the Chaps lead down to 15 once again, 52-67.
Key Players:
  • Sawyer Lloyd showed off her offensive capabilities against the Chaps, scoring 21 points. Lloyd shot 8-11 from the field, 3-4 from the three point line, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Lloyd registered seven total rebounds on defense, and one steal for the Belles.
  • De'Anira Moore continues to be one of the Belles main scorers, scoring 17 points from the field and free throw line. Moore shot 6-15 from the field and 5-8 from the free throw line. Moore also registered four total rebounds, three on offense and one on defense, along with one block assist.

The Belles travel to Canyon, Texas and Portales, New Mexico as Angelo State faces off against long time fellow Lone Star Conference rival, West Texas A&M on Thursday, January 16 and fellow conference adversary, Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, January 18. Tip offs are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
