Rambelles Take On Buffs And Greyhounds This Weekend

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team takes to the road this week as they travel to Canyon, Texas and Portales, New Mexico face off against long time conference rival, West Texas A&M, and fellow conference member, Eastern New Mexico.
The Belles are 8-4 overall, and 5-3 in conference.

Series Matchup:
The last time the Belles and Buffs played each other was on March 16, 2019, where the Belles traveled to Canyon and defeated the Buffs, 73-70. In the 31 games that the Belles and Buffs have been playing since 2007, the Belles have won twice at the Buffs home gymnasium. Marquita Daniels led the Belles offensive campaign against WT, scoring 23 points and shooting 46% from the field, 67% from the three point line, and 58% from the free throw line. Daniels registered four defensive rebounds, three assists and four steals for the Belles as well. Maria Delgado and De'Anira Moore led the Belles defensively against the Buffs, Delgado grabbing seven defensive rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Moore grabbed four defensive rebounds, and one block for Angelo State.
 
The last time Belles and Greyhounds played each other was on February 16, 2019, where the Belles traveled to Portales and were defeated 67-71 by the Greyhounds. Daniels once again led the Belles offensively, scoring 29 points for the Belles, shooting 40% from the field, 33% from the three point line, and 33% from the free throw line. Daniels also grabbed four defensive rebounds, along with four assists and four steals. Delgado and Moore led ASU's defense as well, Delgado grabbing seven total rebounds, three on defense, while Moore grabbed 10 total rebounds, six on defense, as well as two blocks, three assists, and one steal.
 
Scouting West Texas A&M:
The Buffs enter the week with a 14-3 overall record, and a 7-1 conference record. Abby Spurgin leads the Buffs in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. Spurgin is shooting 51% from the field, and 66% from the free throw line. Tiana Parker leads the Buffs defensively in rebounds, averaging 6.2 rebounds a game. Parker averages 4.5 defensive rebounds a game, a steal a game, and 2.4 blocks per game.

Scouting Eastern New Mexico:
The Greyhounds enter into the week with a 10-4 overall record and a 4-4 conference record. Alivia Lewis leads the Greyhounds in scoring, averaging 12.3 points a game. Lewis is shooting 48% from the field, and 63% from the free throw line. Lewis also leads the team defensively, averaging 8.5 rebounds a game with a total of 102 rebounds, 26 offensive and 76 defensive.
 
Last Time Out:
The Belles played the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals on Saturday, January 11 in Lubbock and lost 52-69. Sawyer Lloyd led the Belles offensively, scoring a career high 21 points as a true freshman. Lloyd shot 73% from the field, 75% from the three point line, and 100% from the free throw line. Lloyd and Catara Samuel led the Belles defensively, both players grabbing seven rebounds each. Lloyd registered seven defensive rebounds and one steal, while Samuel registered four offensive rebounds and three defensive rebounds, along with three assists.
 
Key Players:
De'Anira Moore leads the Belles in scoring and rebounds, shooting 52% from the field and leading the conference in field goal percentage, 72% from the free throw line, and registering a total of 93 rebounds, 39 on offense and 57 on defense. Moore is also averaging 2 blocks a game, and is ranked sixth in conference for blocks.
Catara Samuel continues to be one of the Belles main players both on defense and offense. Samuel is shooting 37% from the field and 67% from the free throw line. Samuel also leads the Belles in steals with 27 total for the season so far, averaging 2.3 steals a game and is ranked seventh in the conference for steals.
 
Up Next:
After traveling to Portales, the Belles will return to the Stephens Arena on Thursday, January 23 as they host the St. Edwards Hilltoppers and Saturday, January 25 as the Belles host the St. Mary's Rattlers. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
