Belles Hit the Road for Pair of Non-Conference Matchups

SAN ANGELO – Following a tough weekend that saw the Belles drop a pair of games at home, the Belle Basketball team hits the road this week for a pair of road matchups against LSC opponents in non-conference play, taking on undefeated Texas A&M International on Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.

The Belles turned in their two best offensive performances this past weekend against Harding and Arkansas Tech and have a lot of positives to take away from the weekend.

Blakely Gerber scored 40 points over the two games to lead the Belles' offense, responsible for 16 of the Belles' 25 makes from the free throw line. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds in both contests, with nine of them coming on the offensive glass.

Payton Brown played all possible 80 minutes over the weekend. The Wayland Baptist transfer is third in the LSC, averaging 38.0 minutes per game.

Brown and Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant lead the Belles in scoring this season, with the pair averaging 11 and 10 points per game, respectively. Brown also leads the team with seven threes made and three assists per game, while McGhee-Pleasant is shooting 47.4 percent from the field.

Amongst the returners from last season's team, Madeline Stephens has been the standout, averaging eight points per game and 6.8 rebounds per contest. The Lubbock native is also shooting a team-best 55.9 percent from the floor this season.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS

Texas A&M International is 4-0 this season, with all four wins coming on their home court. They are one of three undefeated teams left in the conference.

The Dustdevils are led in scoring by Rai Brown's 21.3 points per game and Emily Swiercz's 16.3 points per game. They outscore opponents by 16.75 points per game and hold opponents to 40 percent shooting on the season.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS

Texas A&M-Kingsville is 4-2 on the season with a 2-0 record on home court. All of their wins this season have been by ten points or less, while all of their losses have come by more than ten points.

The Javelinas average 59.8 points per game, led by Brianna Pena's 10.5 points per contest. The Javelinas, who have shot 40.4 percent from the field this season, have seen opponents also shoot 40.4 percent against their defense.
