SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State women's tennis team wrapped up their final tournament on the fall schedule on Sunday, as they were the only Division II school competing at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Tournament this past weekend.
In Flight C in singles play,
Eva Schwartz claimed a first-round win over Elif Albayrak from Tarleton State, while the back draw of Flight D saw teammate
Alexandra Vishnevskaya take a pair of wins over Division I opponents.
Ayda Guler won her first-round matchup in Flight E and doubles partner
Ramitha Irrinki bounced back from an opening-round loss to beat Stefanie Wilske from UTRGV in straight sets.
In her first competition as a Rambelle, true freshman Letizia Corsini took a pair of wins en route to the Flight F finals; in the Flight F back draw,
Mieke Van Deventer won a tiebreaker against UTRGV's Valeria Montero.
Doubles play proved very successful for the Rambelles, with Guler and Irrinki winning a pair of matches to make the Flight B finals; in the same flight, Vishnevskaya and
Dianela Rodriguez made it to the semifinals after winning their opening matchup.
After a first-round bye, Corsini and Van Deventer paired in Flight C and won their semifinal match before falling in the final.
The Rambelles' spring season will start in early February.
