SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's tennis team, who are coming off a home win over #15 Nebraska-Kearney yesterday, hit the road for three matches this week, taking on Spring Hill in Mobile, Alabama on Tuesday before facing West Florida in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday and #13 West Alabama in Pensacola on Friday.
The Belles are 7-2 overall on the season, with losses to a now-ranked Mississippi College squad and a loss to #21 Southwest Baptist.
On the doubles' side, the number two pairing of
Ramitha Irrinki and
Ayda Guler have led the Belles this season, with the duo recording a 7-2 record this spring. Number one pairing
Valentina Gonzalez and
Ena Ovcina are 6-2 while the number three pairing of
Eva Schwartz and
Mieke Van Deventer are 6-3.
Irrinki and
Dianela Rodriguez are undefeated in singles play, with Irrinki responsible for clinching five of the Belles' seven wins this season, including clinching their win yesterday against the Lopers.
Following this weekend, the Belles have a pair of highly anticipated matchups on deck, facing LSC rivals St. Mary's next Friday before hosting #3 Central Oklahoma the following Sunday.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Spring Hill are 4-7 overall on the season and have lost their last three matches, with all four of their wins coming in SIAC action.
This will mark the first matchup between the Badgers and the Belles.
SCOUTING THE ARGONAUTS
West Florida, who were ranked in the ITA rankings earlier this season, are 3-5 overall on the season. Four of their five losses this season have come against ranked opposition, with the fifth loss coming against Division I opponent Austin Peay.
The Belles and the Argos have faced each other once previously, with the Belles defeating the then-7
th ranked Argos last February in the first round of the ITA Indoor National Championships.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
West Alabama, the #13 team in the country in the latest edition of the ITA rankings, are 7-3 overall on the season, with all three losses coming against ranked opponents. Two of those losses came at the ITA Indoor National Championships, including a loss to national champions Berry.
Five of their wins this season have been clean sweeps. This will be the first matchup between the Tigers and the Belles.
