SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State track & field team collected three gold medals on day two of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
After two days, the eighth-ranked Rambelles sit in second place in the team standings with 95.50 points while the Rams are in fourth with 32 points.
The Rams started the day with an LSC title as Mark Burdin closed out the decathlon to earn gold with a total of 7,135 points. He picked up two first-place finishes on the final day, throwing 42.61m (139-10) in the discus and clearing a height of 4.60m (15-1) in the pole vault. Finishing fifth overall was Kyle Lumpkins with a total of 5,977 points.
Abby Zamzow won the first gold for Rambelles, winning the long jump with a personal best jump of 6.23m (20-5.25). Also earning first in her event was Camryn Barros who cleared 3.65m (11-11.75) to win the pole vault.
The Rambelles placed two on the podium in the heptathlon as Anna Riccomagno finished second overall with 5,086 points while Allison Vaughn took third with 4,992 points. Riccomagno earned the top mark in the javelin with a throw of 37.50m(123-0) while Vaughn ran the fastest time in the 800-meter run at 2:17.79.
Tiamara Hill-Johnson earned a spot on the podium in the discus, finishing third overall with a throw of 46.65m (153-1). Also earning third overall was Mary Brown who ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:20.19.
Qualifying for finals in the 400-meter dash was Shadae Findley who ran 54.75, while Alliyah Harrison qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.13.
Fatoumata Kabo ran the fastest time in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 59.62. Qualifying with her was Ariyah Samuels with the third fastest time at 1:02.36, and Averie Griffith who ran 1:05.20.
In the men's pole vault, Pacer Hill finished fourth overall with a height of 4.41m (14-5.5) while Wes Rodgers finished eighth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:07.11.
Antonio Blair qualified for the finals in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.99 while Max Wassmer finished third in the prelims of 400-meter dash at 47.51 to qualify. Also competing in the finals is David Morgan who ran the fifth fastest time in the 100-meter dash at 10.58.
The Rams qualified three athletes in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles in Ruben Davila (55.17), JoeMarcus Mireles (55.24), and Brad Humphreys (56.45).
The meet concludes tomorrow with the final day as javelin begins at 11 a.m. while the finals of the running events will begin at 2:30 p.m.
