SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State track & field teams concluded the first day of the 2024 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday, earning three medals at LeGrand Stadium at 1
st Community Credit Union Field.
The eight-ranked Rambelles are in second place in the conference meet after the opening day, collecting 21 team points while the men are in fourth overall with 11 points.
After day one of the decathlon,
Mark Burdin leads the field with 3,759, taking first overall in the shot put and the high jump. In fifth is
Kyle Lumpkins with 3,440 points after taking second in the shot put and third in the high jump.
In the heptathlon,
Anna Riccomagno is in second place with 3,015 points followed by
Allison Vaughn in fourth (2,948) and
Kylie Frush in fifth (2,895).
Cole Paxton finished second overall in the men's hammer throw, tossing a mark of 53.66m (176-1) while
Tiamara Hill-Johnson finished second overall on the women's side, throwing 45.26m (148-6).
Solomon Odonkor finished fourth overall in the prelims of the men's 200-meter dash to qualify for the finals, running a time of 21.56.
The Belles placed two on the podium in the triple jump as
Allison Vaughn finished second overall with a jump of 12.49m (40-11.75) while
Abby Zamzow took third at 11.97m (39-3.25).
Averie Griffith and
Ariyah Samuels qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles as Griffith finished second overall in the prelims with a time of 14.03 followed by Samuels in fourth at 14.33.
Qualifying for the finals in the 1,500-meter run were
Mary Brown and
Anna Eischen who finished 10
th and 11
th respectively with times of 4:51.50 and 4:55.77 while
Alliyah Harrison qualified in the 200-meter dash with an eighth-place finish at 24.55.
The meet continues tomorrow with the conclusion of the multis beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles.
