SAN ANGELO, Texas – Despite receiving a career high 39 points from LaDonn Huckaby in his final game as a Ram, the Angelo State men's basketball season came to an end on the road after a 83-78 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday night.

The Rams (11-17, 4-14) had an early 7-4 lead on Texas A&M-Commerce (10-16, 5-13) at the 16:59 mark of the first half after a three pointer by Huckaby. Commerce proceeded to go on a 16-3 run to take the lead.

The Lions took their largest lead (20 points) late in the first half on a Preston Whitley three pointer. Whitley scored 12 points in the first half to help Commerce to a 49-30 halftime lead.

Only four Rams scored in the first half as Huckaby paced the team with 17 first-half points.

The second half started out with a dunk by Devondrick Walker followed by the Rams going on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 13.

The Rams continued to chip away at the lead in part to Huckaby, who scored 22 of his 39 in the final 20 minutes. The 39 points is the most by a Ram since Richard Thomas scored 40 Feb. 16, 2011.

The battle continued, as the lead was trimmed to one with 3:31 to go after a Huckaby three. The Lions pushed their lead to six with 24 seconds to go before Hucakby drilled his seventh 3-pointer of the night. The seven three pointers is the third-most in a single game in school history.

Brad Hambrick hit two free throws with five seconds to go to seal the victory for the Lions.

Joey Lenox added 12 points in his final game as a Ram, while Javae King-Gilchrist chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.
