ALLEN, Texas – The fifth-seeded Angelo State women's basketball team will face fourth-seeded Cameron in its quarterfinals match at the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships. Tip-off of the game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Allen Event Center.

ASU in the LSC Championships
This is Angelo State's 23rd appearance in the LSC Championship tournament, which is third all-time in league history and second-most among the schools currently in the field. The Belles have a record of 22-18 in conference postseason play and have four titles.

ASU lost its last year's opening round game to Central Oklahoma, 76-52. The Belles final win in the tournament was in 2008 versus Northeastern State.

ASU-Cameron Series
The Belles and Aggies split their battles this season with each team winning on its home floor. ASU holds a 24-18 all-time advantage against Cameron in a series that dates back to 1976.

Angelo State won the most recent meeting in dramatic fashion defeating the Aggies, 54-53, on Feb. 1 in overtime. The Belles' Ashley James scored seven straight points in the final two minutes of regulation to send the game into the extra session where the Belles prevailed with their second one-point victory of the season.

About Angelo State
Angelo State is 12-14 overall and 10-10 in league play this season. It is only the second time in head coach Sally Brooks' 12-year tenure that she has finished the regular season with a losing record at ASU.

This year's team earned that distinction after dropping its regular season finale at Texas A&M-Commerce, 64-61, last Saturday. Prior before that game, the Lions were 0-19 in conference play and hadn't won a game in the league since defeating the Belles in 2009.

The Belles are entering their 11th postseason tournament under Brooks and have won three titles under their coach in 2002, 2004, and 2005.

Paige Weishuhn is the Belles' top scorer on the season at 12.7 points per contest and has posted 17-double-digit scoring games this year. The 6-foot-1 center has scored 20 points or more in two of her last three contests and was recently named the LSC's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Wall native was also honored by the league on Tuesday by being named on the conference's All Second Team. It was the third time in her career that Weishuhn received LSC postseason accolades.

As the team's lone senior, Weishuhn is the only member of this year's squad to have played in more than one LSC tournament game and was on the last team that won a game in the postseason.

Freshman Haylee Oliver was also recognized by the conference in winning Defensive Player of the Week honors and being named the league's Co-Freshman of the Week. Oliver is second behind Weishuhn in scoring at 11.2 points per game, while pulling down nearly five boards per contest. The San Saba native leads the Belles in 3-point shooting at 38.8 percent and has knocked down a team-best 31 from behind the arc.

Lauren Holt returns to the court after missing last week because of injury. The sophomore is bringing down a team-high 6.4 caroms per game and is second on the team with 23 blocks. Leah LeMaire started all 26 games this season after missing last season because of injuries and scored a career-best 18 points at Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.

Juniors James and Morgan Youngblood round out the starting five for the Belles. James leads the team in assists with 71 while Youngblood paces the Belles defense with 32 steals and is playing 30.8 minutes per game, also the most on the team.

About Cameron
The Aggies are making their eighth appearance in the LSC Championships, but first since 2006. This is also the first postseason tournament team under head coach Tom Webb.

Webb has a 43-64 overall record at Cameron and finished this season 15-10, 11-9 in the LSC.

Sabelle Diata was named the league's Player and Defender of the Year at the pre-championship banquet on Tuesday. The senior from Dakar, Senegal is averaging a team-high 14.6 points per game and is the conference's top rebounder and shot blocker at 9.7 boards and 2.8 blocks per contest.

Fellow forward, Julie Paunovic, joins Diata in double figures at 13.7 PPG and is averaging 6.7 rebounds per contest, both second on the team. Alexis Williams (12.2 PPG) and Nicole Pendarvis (10.0 PPG) round out the double-digit scorers for the Aggies.
