SAN ANGELO, Texas – Chesney Neely became the latest member to join the 2012-13 Angelo State Belles basketball team as announced by head coach Sally Brooks on Thursday morning.
Neely is a transfer from St. Mary's University who will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Belles. The 5-foot-11 post-forward from Goldthwaite appeared in all 29 games last season for the Rattlers starting 14 of them and playing nearly 19 minutes per contest. On the year she averaged 3.9 points and 2.8 rebound per game and had four double-digit scoring outings including a double-double at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Jan. 12.
“Chesney will be a great addition to our team on and off the floor,” Brooks said. “She is a very solid low post player and has the skills to also play on the perimeter. Her versatility and work ethic will allow her to make an immediate impact on our team.”
At Goldthwaite High School Neely was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Eagles playing under head coach Wayne Johnson. She was a two-time All-Region Player and earned All-State player recognition. She also earned a spot on the District 15-A first team while winning Offensive and the District MVP during her career.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the regional tournament all four seasons, three times reaching the regional finals.
Neely was a standout in track and field. As a thrower under coach Greg Proffitt, Neely won all 15 meets that she competed in during her senior year and was the named the 1A Girls State Champion Discuss Thrower in 2011.
Off the court Neely was a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She continued to be a member of the FCA during her time at St. Mary's.
Neely joins fellow spring addition, Bria Platenburg, as well as fall signees Faith Hunt, Jennifer Lapp and Amanda Weaver as part of Angelo State's 2011-12 signing class.

Stacy Duffell, Belles assistant coach
“Chesney brings experience and physicality to our team especially in the post. She has good size and strength on the inside to be productive on both ends of the floor. She is also versatile enough to step on the perimeter to either take the shot or make a good pass. With the loss of Paige (Weishuhn), she is a good addition to our inside/outside game.”
