SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball teamed dropped a 73-60 non-conference game to Trinity University on Monday night at the Junell Center.
The Belles (2-3) shot 36.8-percent for the game including 44.4-percent in the first half. The Tigers (4-1) hit 49.1-percent of their shots including 12 three pointers. ASU forced 14 turnovers but committed 18 turnovers. Trinity was able to score 26 points in the paint compared to 18 for Angelo State.
Three Belles scored in double figures with
Hillari Adam leading the way with 12 points.
Kayla Turner chipped in 11 points and
Rochelle Norris added 10.
Trinity had four players in double digits with Anecia Richardson leading all scorers with 19 points.
The Belles went up early 8-3 on a
Kayla Turner three-point shot but Trinity battled back to tie it at 13 with 13:21 to go in the first half. The Tigers would go on a 13-2 run and go up 11 at 28-17 at the 9:17 mark before the Belles responded.
ASU cut the lead to 32-23 with 4:27 to go and outscored the Tigers 11-6 to finish the half down 38-34.
Trinity would come out in the second half and score the first 13 points of the first half to go up 51-34 at the 15:40 mark of the second half. The Belles would trim the lead down over the next eight minutes of the game.Â
Amanda Weaver would hit a three pointer to start the 22-8 run.
The second three of the night for Turner at the 7:12 mark would make it 59-56 Tigers.
"I was proud of the way my team responded after being down 17 points," ASU Head Coach
Cayla Petree said after the game. "We were able to cut the lead to three and I saw the fight and team I know we have when we play with urgency. We have to play like that consistently for 40 minutes."
Trinity would respond with a 14-4 run to put the game away.
The Belles will play in the West Texas A&M Classic this weekend with a game against Colorado State-Pubelo at 12 p.m. on Friday followed by Incarnate Word at 12 p.m. on Saturday.Â
