CANYON, Texas  – Amanda Weaver scored a career high 18 points to lead the Angelo State women's basketball team to a 58-43 win over Incarnate Word at the West Texas A&M Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.

The Belles (4-3) used 47-percent shooting including 45-percent from the three-point line while limiting the Cardinals (5-3), who moved to Division I this season, to 32-percent shooting. ASU won the rebounding battle 38-28 and had 10 steals in the game.

"The ride home will be much more enjoyable with these two wins against two very solid teams," head coach Cayla Petree said. "We will continue to improve as our commitment to the process keeps getting stronger. Our strength is our discipline and tenacity. Amanda Weaver came up huge today knocking down big shots and big moments."

Weaver's game high 18 points came from six three pointers. The sophomore went six-of-eight from behind the arc and grabbed five rebounds. Rochelle Norris scored 12 points and it marks the third-straight game in double figures for the senior. Leah LeMaire added 10 points.

The two teams had a slow start with ASU leading 9-7 through the first 10 minutes of the first half.  A three pointer by Hillari Adam sparked an 11-2 run at the 10:33 mark of the first half.

Two quick Incarnate Word baskets to cut the ASU lead to 20-13 and the Belles followed it up with 10-2 run with Weaver sinking two three pointers. Weaver hit four three-point shots in the first half on the way to a 30-18 Angelo State lead at halftime.

The Belles opened the second half with a 9-2 run with layups by Karli Kellermeier and LeMaire. Haylee Oliver hit a jumper and Kayla Turner hit a three.

The Cardinals would respond with their own 7-2 run but Angelo State responded with a 12-2 run to go up 53-32 with 7:50 to put the game away. Weaver and LeMaire both hit three pointers during the run while the Belles would make nine three pointers on the day.

The Belles will face UT-Permian Basin on Mon., Dec. 2 in Odessa at 7 p.m. The Falcons won the first matchup between the two schools 56-50 on Nov. 19.
