Belles Start Regular Season at St. Mary’s Classic

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team starts the regular season at the St. Mary's Classic in San Antonio with a game at 5 p.m. on Friday against McMurry and a 6 p.m. contest with St. Mary's on Saturday.
 
Angelo State is 20-18 all-time in season openers including winners of the last five. The Belles are 19-5 against McMurry and 26-19 versus St. Mary's all-time.
 
The Belles dropped its exhibition game with Texas Tech 71-53 but held a lead early in the second half on the Lady Raiders. Karli Kellermeier led the team with her second career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Haylee Oliver, the team's leading scorer last year, scored seven points for the Belles and dished out four assists.
 
The duo of Kayla Turner and Amanda Weaver hit some shots from downtown and scored nine points each against Tech. Turner went three-of-seven from the three point line while Weaver hit two from downtown. Turner transferred from South Plains while Weaver came off the bench last season.  
 
Newcomers Rochelle Norris and Michelle Rosewell both saw minutes and will play this weekend. Norris, a Wayland Baptist transfer, scored five points and recorded five rebounds on Monday night.
 
Hillari Adam, a redshirt last season, and senior Leah LeMaire, both played over 20 minutes in the exhibition game. Adam fouled out after grabbing five boards and scoring five points. 
 
McMurry
The Warhawks went 12-15 last season. Head coach Veronica Snow returns eight from last year's squad and adds two transfers and three freshmen. Senior Keshia Collins was a second team All-Heartland team selection last year and the Warhawks leading scorer at 13.1 points per game.
 
St. Mary's
The Rattlers and head coach Jason Martens went 22-7 last year and was second in the Heartland Conference. Three starters return from last year's squad. Jackie Woods, a senior guard, is the Rattlers led the team in scoring last year at 15.8 points per game.
