Belles Host Schreiner at 5 p.m. on Tuesday

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will play its first game in 13 days as they host Schreiner University at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Belles are 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in their last four games. ASU was on a three-game win streak prior to falling to Western New Mexico, 59-52, on Dec. 4.

The Belles are tops in the Lone Star Conference and No. 12 nationally in scoring defense at 55.4 points per game. ASU is limiting opponents to only hit 37.8-percent from the field. The Belles are averaging 59.1 points per game hitting 39.5-percent from the field and hold a 3.1 rebounding advantage on the season.

ASU is 1-2 at Stephens Arena this season with losses to UT-Permian Basin and Trinity. The victory came over Arlington Baptist with the final being 77-60. The Belles out rebound teams at home 44.7-34.7 and commit two fewer turnovers but opponents are hitting 42.0-percent from the field compared to just 35.6-percent for ASU.

Hillari Adam, who is averaging 14.1 points per game this season, is scoring 15.7 points at Stephens Arena. She also leads the team grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game at home. Adam is sixth in the Lone Star Conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

Kayla Turner has scored 11.0 points per game at home compared to just 6.4 points per game this season. The junior has hit five six pointers in three games at home compared to just five in the five games away from the Junell. Her two best games of the season came against UT-Permian Basin and Trinity. The Amarillo native scored led the team against UTPB with 15 points and followed it with 11 against Trinity.

Amanda Weaver should see increased minutes after only averaging 13.3 minutes per game in the previous three home games. The sophomore has scored 10.8 points per game in her last five games and averaged 24.0 minutes per game. The Center Point native is first in the LSC and No. 29 nationally hitting 47.4-percent from the three-point line.

Rochelle Norris has scored in double figures in four of the Belles last five games. She is third on the team in scoring averaging 8.1 points per game. The senior has averaged 9.1 points per game in the Belles last five games. 

Schreiner is 3-3 on the season and 3-2 on the road. The Mountaineers average 63.8 points per game on 38.4-perecent shooting from the field. Lindsey Peterson leads Schreiner with 17.4 points per game. Three other Mountaineers average double figures in points.

The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call. This will be the first of two home games for the Belles this week. ASU will host its final home game of 2013 on Saturday at 2 p.m. against former LSC opponent Incarnate Word.
