SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will look to sweep the season series with West Texas A&M for the first time since 2004-2005 on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Canyon.
The Belles (8-10, 5-7 LSC) sit in seventh in the Lone Star Conference standings heading into the matchup with West Texas A&M (11-10, 7-5 LSC). Angleo State is 4-7 since the West Texas A&M victory while the Lady Buffs are 9-4.
The first game between these two teams ended in a double overtime thriller. The Belles outscored WT by six in the second OT to secure the victory. Down 57-52 with 1:14 to go in regulation,
Leah LeMaire and
Cassi Stegall hit buckets to cut it to one point. After a made free throw by Non Oliva,
Haylee Oliver was fouled and hit both free throws to tie the game.LeMaire scored a career-high 24 points in the win.
Angelo State is 3-3 on the road this season and 2-3 in conference road games. The Belles have dropped the last three road games but are shooting 45.2-percent (131-312) while holding opponents to 39.3-percent (136-346).
While the records are even, statistically the Belles are a better team on the road. ASU is scoring 9.8 points per game more and create more assists at 11.8 per game compared to 10.4 at home. The Belles commit fewer turnovers and shoot better at the free-throw line (64.4-percent away to 61.9-percent home) and 3-pointers (35.9-percent road, 23.2-precent home).
The Belles top three leading scorers,
Lauren Holt, Oliver and LeMaire, are scoring better on the road. Holt averages 15.2 per game compared to 11.4 at Stephens Arena. Oliver (13.8 road PPG) and LeMaire (13.2 road PPG) are scoring two and three points more per game, respectively.
This will be the 65
th all-time meeting between the two schools with West Texas A&M holding a 47-17 advantage in the all-time series.
