SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team won its fifth-straight game and third-straight on the road with a 57-51 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Belles moved to 13-12 and 10-9 in the Lone Star Conference and outscored Texas A&M-Kingsville (5-20, 3-16 LSC) 34-10 in the paint. ASU held the Javelinas to 27.6-percent from the field.
Angelo State went back and forth with the Javelinas having two ties over the first 10 minutes of the game. Texas A&M-Kingsville cut an ASU lead of three to one on a bucket by the Javelinas Kaitlyn Lowen at the 6:35 mark to make it 23-22.
The Belles would use a 10-3 run over the final 6:35 to take a 33-25 lead at the half.
Lauren Holt and LeMaire would both score double-digit points with 13 and 11, respectively.
ASU hit 53.8-percent of its shots from the field in the first half.
The second half started with the Belles extending their lead to the largest of the game over the first nine minutes. ASU would take a 45-32 lead on a
Faith Hunt jumper for a 13-point lead at the 11:11 mark of the game. The Javelinas would not go away and roared back with an 11-3 run of their own to cut it to 48-42 with 7:28 to play.
The Belles would score the next seven points after
Amanda Weaver hit a big 3-pointer to give the Belles a 12-point cushion with 4:52 to play.
Leah LeMaire would again extend the lead to 12 at 57-45 with 3:14 to go. Texas A&M-Kingsville would hold Angelo State scoreless over the final 3:14 the game but could only trim the final margin to six at 57-51.
Holt would lead all scorers with 19 points and LeMaire recorded her second-straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Belles shot 42.3-percent from the field for the game.
Texas A&M-Kingsville was led by Sheana Jones with 11 points.
The Belles will host its season finale at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Incarnate Word.
