SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will play Incarnate Word at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in Stephens Arena in its home finale and will honor senior
Morgan Youngblood at halftime of the men's basketball game.
The Belles won their fifth-straight game on Wednesday with a 57-51 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville to move to 13-12 on the season and 10-9 in Lone Star Conference play. The five-game streak is the longest since the Belles won 10 consecutive games during the 2007-2008 season.
ASU has been two different teams over the last 10 games. The Belles only scored 50.8 points per and hit 37.5-percent from the field in the five games prior to the win streak and now score 58.6 points and shoot 41.-percent from the field.
Angelo State's defense has been its calling card throughout the season. Opponents were averaging 59.1 points per game and 35.4-percent shooting from the field on the season but the defense has played even better during the last five games. The Belles have held teams to a stingy 27.6-percent from the field and only 50.2 points per game throughout the win streak.
Lauren Holt has been the most consistent scorer scoring at least 15 points and is averaging 16.2 per game. The junior is the Belles leading scorer over the season with 12.7 points per game.
Leah LeMaire played extremely well as of late scoring double figures in four of the last five games. She has recorded two-straight double-doubles and the junior is averaging 12.4 points per game during the streak.
Youngblood has also increased her scoring. She is averaging 9.4 points per game and 6.2 rebounds. She has been leading the Belles with 11 assists over the last five games. The senior has played in 104 games in her career and started 66. She has a career average of 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds and the team captain.
