ALLEN, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will face West Texas A&M in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship at 12 p.m. on Thursday at the Allen Event Center.
The LSC Championship Tournament
It is the 24
th appearance for the Belles in the LSC Championship tournament. ASU enters the tournament with a 14-12 overall
record of 11-9 in the LSC. It is the 12
th time the Belles will make the LSC Tournament under head coach Sally Walling Brooks. ASU is 23-19 all-time in the LSC Championship tournament.
The Numbers Behind the Six-Game Streak
ASU is riding a six-game win streak which is the longest since the 2004-2005 season. The Belles defense has been the different in the six-game win streak. Opponents are being held to 47.8 points per game and ASU is limiting teams to 23.7-percent shooting from the field. Rebounding has gone up 5.4 more per game and rebounding margin is 11.2 during the streak. Offensively, the Belles are scoring 56.8 points per game which is slightly lower than their season average of 58.6.
Offensive Weapons
Lauren Holt has been the most consistent scorer. She is averaging 12.9 points this season but has increased it to 16.5 per game in the last six games. Holt has 19 games of double-digit points and she has scored at least 15 points in the last six games. The junior has recorded eight double-doubles on the season.
Haylee Oliver, the 2012 LSC Co-Freshman of the Year, is averaging 11.2 points per game on the season with 7.5 rebounds. She has six double-doubles on the season including one in the win over West Texas A&M on December 1 when she scored 24 points and grabbed 12 boards.
Leah LeMaire has been the other scoring option this season. She is scoring 10.8 points on the season but increased it to 12.0 during the win streak. The junior has found her range from 3-point land during the win streak hitting 50-percent (6-of-12) of her shots. She has collected more rebounds and recorded two double-double against Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The two double-doubles give her three for her career and were the first since her freshman campaign.
Double-Doubles Galore
The Belles have racked up the double-doubles this season with 18 overall. Laure Holt leads the team with eight and
Haylee Oliver is second with six.
Leah LeMaire recorded two with
Karli Kellermeier and
Morgan Youngblood both grabbing one. The 18 double-double in a season is the most since the Belles had 25 during the 2004-2005 season.
The Season Series with West Texas A&M
Angelo State will face rival West Texas A&M for the third time this season. The two teams split the regular season series with both winning at home. The Belles win in December was the first win over the Lady Buffs since the 2004-2005 season. Both teams won by six points with WT shooting better in the two games at 43-percent from the field and 37.5-percent from three pointers.
The Last LSC Tournament Matchup with WT
The last time these two teams faced each other in the LSC Championship Tournament was on March 8, 2008. No. 15 West Texas A&M defeated the Belles in the semi-finals leading wire-to-wire for a 67-55 victory. The Lady Buffs would go on to win the LSC title over Central Oklahoma.

Holt is eighth in scoring at 12.9, fourth in rebounding at 8.6 per contest, fifth in field goal percentage .491, second in blocked shots at 1.8, third in offensive rebounds with 3.4 per game and sixth in defensive rebounds with 5.2 per game. Oliver is sixth in rebounding with 7.5 per game, sixth in free throw percentage at 78.5-percent, seventh in 3-point field goals made with 1.3 per game, seventh in blocked shots at 0.7 per contest, third in defensive rebounds with 7.9 per and fourth in minutes played at 33.2.
