LAWTON, Okla. – Four Belles scored in double figures, led by
Leah LeMaire's 15 points and 11 rebounds, as the Angelo State women's basketball defeated Cameron 71-61 on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles (10-8, 4-4 LSC) shot 49.1-percent from the field while outrebounding the Aggies (9-8, 1-6 LSC) 33-29. Cameron turned the ball over 12 times and ASU scored 16 points off turnovers. The Belles scored 32 points in the paint and received 19 points from the bench.
The Belles came out shooting in the first half hitting 50-percent from the field and 44.4-percent from 3-pointers. Tati Haynes started the game with a three pointer for the Belles that sparked an 8-2 run. The Aggies hit a three pointer to make it 10-7 but
Michelle Rosewell stopped the CU run with a layup at the 15:38 mark.
A quick 6-1 run by ASU extended the lead to 18-8. The Belles hit five 3-pointers in the first half as
Haylee Oliver sank two during a stretch that put ASU up 30-16 with 5:47 in the first half. The Belles would hold their largest lead of the half moments later at 37-21 after Karli Kellermier went on a 7-0 run.
The Belles limited the Aggies to 35.4-percent shooting in the first half on the way to a 37-27 lead at halftime. It is the first halftime lead for ASU since Texas A&M-Commerce.
LeMaire would hit a layup to open the second half but the Aggies cut the lead to seven on a Chelsea Stamp three pointer.
Rochelle Norris, who scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, hit a jumper on a 7-2 run to put ASU back up 16 at 59-43 with 10:42 left in the game.
Cameron would battle back with under four minutes to play. The Aggies scored five quick points to cut the Belles advantage to 64-59. Haynes would answer with a jumper and the Belles finished outscoring Cameron 7-1 in the final two minutes for the 71-61 win.
LeMaire led the Belles in both scoring (15) and rebounds (11). Haynes tied a season high with 13 points while Norris adding 12 points and nine rebounds. Oliver scored all of her 10 points in the first half.
Chelsea Stamp led the Aggies with 18 points and Brittany Harris put in 14 points.
The Belles will have a week off before playing at Stephens Arena against Texas A&M-Commerce on Sat., Feb. 1.
