Belles Host Javelinas at the Junell Center

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will return to the court this Saturday at 2 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

It will be the first game for the Belles (10-8, 4-4 LSC) after a win at Cameron last Saturday. ASU is tops in the league in scoring defense at 58.0 points per game and No. 14 nationally. The Belles score 59.8 points per game this season and hit 39.3-percent from the field.

ASU is 4-4 at Stephens Arena this year. The Belles score more at home at 60.6 points per game while only allowing 58.9. Opponents turn the ball over 17.8 times per game at the Junell Center and are limited to 37.3-percent shooting from the field.

In conference games, the Belles are being outscored 64.4 to 60.4 per game. Opponents are limited to 38.4-percent from the field but hit 7.8 3-pointers per game.

The win over Cameron snapped a three-game losing streak and committed the fewest turnovers in a game since 2011. The six turnovers for the Belles is the fewest since committing nine against St. Edward's on January 9, 2007.

Three seniors played a key role in the victory over Cameron. Rochelle Norris, Tatiana Haynes and Leah LeMaire scored in double figures to lead the Belles to the victory. LeMaire recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Norris was near a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds while Haynes added 13 points.

Norris is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 per game while LeMaire is fourth at 7.1 per game. Haynes averages 4.8 per game in just 11.8 minutes per game.

Haylee Oliver had her best game of the season against Cameron scoring 10 points. The junior, who averages 3.6 points per game, was perfect for the floor hitting all three shots and both 3-pointers. She grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists as well. The San Saba native leads the team with 56 assists on the season.

The Belles leading scorer, Hillari Adam, is averaging 12.1 points per game this season. The Wall native increases her scoring at home at 13.7 points per game. She grabs 7.5 rebounds per game at home and has hit 54-percent from the field.

Amanda Weaver has seen a slight drop in scoring. The sophomore is third on the team at 8.9 points per game but only scores 7.9 at home. She leads the Belles in three point field goal percentage at 42-percent.

Karli Kellermeier provided a big spark against Cameron. The Wall native, who is averaging 5.9 points per game, scored seven-straight points during a two-minute stretch against Cameron to extend the Belles lead in the first half. Kellermeier is tops on the team with 26 steals.

Michelle Rosewell has started the last five games for the Belles and led ASU with five assists against Cameron. She is scoring 2.9 points per game and has 41 assists this season.

Texas A&M-Kingsville comes in with a record of 7-10 and 2-5 in the Lone Star Conference. ASU fans will see a familiar face on Saturday in former Belle Lindsey Mahone. Mahone, the sister of Belle Leah LeMaire, is the Javelinas top scorer at 12.9 points per game and top rebounder at 6.9 per game. As a Belle, Mahone averaged 12.5 points per game and 7.1 rebounds.  
Ashley Viera (10.3) and Rosalie Cutri (10.0) are both averaging in double figures.

Texas A&M-Kingsville have lost four of its last five games. The Belles hold a 41-27 series advantage and have won the last two matchups. ASU has won the last six times at the Junell Center with the last TAMUK win coming in San Angelo was a 66-63 overtime win in January of 2007.
