Belles Host Arlington Baptist in Final Home Game of 2014

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will host Arlington Baptist in its final home game of 2014 on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Junell Center.

The Belles are 4-5 on the season after defeating McMurry 60-44 on Friday night in Abilene for their third-straight victory. ASU is 2-2 at the Junell Center this year but have won the last two at home. The last time ASU has won four-straight games was during the 2012-13 season. In the last five games, ASU is 4-1 and scoring 66.8 points per game while limiting teams to 56.0 points per game. Opponents are only shooting 32.5-percent during the five-game stretch. ASU has limited its turnovers by 2.2 less per game while increasing assists (13.0) and total rebounds (41.4) over the last five games.

On the season, the Belles have made 40.7-percent from the floor while scoring 63.4 points per game. Angelo State leads the league in field goal percentage defense at 36.0-percent and holds opponents to 62.1 points per game which is third in the conference. ASU has outrebounded opponents 40.8-40.4 and dish out 12.3 assists per game. Free throws have been a key as the Belles get to the line an average of 22.8 times per game and make 15.6 free throws per game.

The Belles are led in scoring by Jasmine Caston. The sophomore is averaging 15.9 points per game but has increased it to 17.0 in the last five games. She is third in the LSC in scoring and No. 5 in field goal percentage at 40.2-percent. Caston has scoring double figures in eight of ASU's nine games. She leads the Belles with 14 steals on the season.

Jackie Patterson leads the team in rebounds at 6.4 per game while scoring 11.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures in six games and has one double-double on the year. In the last five games, Patterson has scored 12.8 points per game including a season-high of 19 against St. Mary's on the road. Her twin sister Jasmine Patterson is the Belles best shooter making 54.2-percent from the field. The junior is scoring 8.3 points per game off the bench. She has two games in double figures and one double-double.

Amanda Weaver had her best game of the season against McMurry on Friday night. The junior scored a season-high 16 points all in the first half. She made four 3-pointers and recorded three assists. The Center Point native is averaging 9.7 points per game and leads the LSC in 3-point percentage made at 48.8-percent. She has scored in double figures in the last three games and has a total of six on the season. Weaver is the team leader in assists and has one double-double on the year.
Shauna Coleman has averaged 7.3 points per game this season. The freshman is the conference leader at the free throw line making 90.5-percent of her shots. The Lipan native has three games in double figures with her career high of 13 points coming against LCU. She has grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game, tied for second on the team, and sinks 44.4-percent from the field.

Diamalises Rivera, a starter in the last six games, is scoring 5.0 points per game and averaging 3.6 rebounds per game. Michelle Rosewell is tied for third on the team with 15 assists and is second with nine steals.

Elaine Herrera, KeAnna Kelly, Keva Raiford, Kietta Saunders, Shanna Taylor, Jordan Whitaker and Kylie Rollman have all provided depth for the Belles this season.

Arlington Baptist enters with a record of 6-1 on the season and 2-1 on the road. The Patriots advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association's national championship game last season and return two that were named to the national all-tournament team last season. Clifton McDaniel is the head coach for the Patriots.

This will be the second meeting between the two schools. The Belles won last year's meeting 77-60 at the Junell Center.

The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
