SAN ANGELO –The Angelo State women's basketball team will host No. 25 Tarleton State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Belles are 12-9 overall and have won three of their last four games. ASU is currently tied for fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 6-5 record. Â No. 25 Tarleton State
is one game ahead of ASU with a 7-4 record but is 16-5 overall.Â
Wednesday's game is a "Whiteout" with fans being asked to wear white for the game and ticket prices are only $1. Students receive free admission with their ASU One Card.
ASU is the top scoring defense in the LSC and No. 13 nationally at 58.6 points per game while TSU is the No. 2 scoring offense in the league averaging 77.7 points per game. The Belles allowed the Texanns to score 74 points in the first meeting.
The Belles are 6-4 at home this season including a 4-2 record in LSC games. The first half continues to be the key for ASU wins as opponents are outscored 32.2 to 27 in the first half at Stephens Arena. The Belles are 10-0 this season including 7-0 at home when leading at halftime.
At Stephens Arena opponents are limited to 56.2 points per game while ASU is scoring 61.7 per game and conference opponents only score 57.2 per game. The Belles shoot 39.6-percent from the field and 30.1 from 3-point line at home but have shot better against conference foes with 41.1-percent from the field and 32.8-percent from behind the arc.
Hillari Adam, the Belles leading scorer at 12.3 per game, is scoring 13.1 points per game at home. The Wall native has grabbed 7.0 rebounds per game and has averaged 15.0 points in the last two games. Adam has 12 double-digit scoring games this season and two double-doubles on the season.
Karli Kellermeier had a strong week averaging 16.0 points per game after scoring a career-high 21 points against ENMU. The 21 points came off of 8-of-9 shooting. The junior is averaging 7.1 points per game this season and 6.8 per game at home. The Wall native has five games scoring in double-digits this season and is tops in steals with 32.
Amanda Weaver, the Belles best 3-point shooter at 40.2-percent, found her shooting stroke against ENMU. She went 5-for-9 from behind the arc and now has made 41 three's. The 41 3-pointeris the most in a single season since Lindsey Leatherman hit 58.
Rochelle Norris has scored 8.9 points per game this season and 9.0 at the Junell this season. The Dallas native has started all six home conference games and hit 46.6-percent of her shots for an 11.0 average.
Tatiana Haynes scoring has fallen off after a streak of four-straight games in double figures. The senior is scoring 5.4 points per game this season and 5.9 at the Junell Center. The Pontiac, Mich. Native five games of double-digit scoring including a season high 16 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville. She led the Belles with 13 points against Tarleton State in the first meeting.
Haylee Oliver, the team leader is assists with 66, is averaging 3.8 points per game. She has dished out 44 assists at home this season. The San Saba native is eight in the LSC with 3.1 assists per game.
Michelle Rosewell is scoring 3.3 points per game at home while averaging 2.9 during the season. The Grapevine native has 20 steals on the season to go along with 49 assists.
The Texanns have dropped two of their last three games. Tarleton State has won the last four game against the Belles and have a 26-22 overall series advantage. TSU is averaging 77.7 points per game and limiting teams to 62.6 points per game.
The first meeting had the Belles only down two at halftime 33-31 before Tarleton State caught fire in the second half. The Texanns hit 59.3-percent of their shots including 45.5-percent from the 3-point line to outscore ASU 41-25 in the first half. Â Â Â
Kiara Wright, the conference leader in scoring at 21.5 points per and 12.5 rebounds, led the Texanns with 20 points and 15 boards in the first meeting. Kathy Thomas also scored 20 points for TSU including five 3-pointers.
