SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will face two conference road tests with games against Texas Woman's in Denton on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Belles (5-6, 0-1 LSC) dropped its conference opener to Tarleton State 81-71 despite shooting 50.0-percent from the field. ASU out rebounded the TexAnns 35-29 and shot better from the 3-point line but 33 TSU points off 23 ASU turnovers provided the difference. Angelo State has won four of its last five games and is 1-1 on the road this season.
ASU has scored 65.9 points per game this season and made 41.7-percent from the field. The defense is holding opponents to 62.6 points per game on 36.4-percent shooting. The Belles leads the LSC in defensive rebounds at 27.6 per game and rebounding offense at 41.9 per game.
Texas Woman's is 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference. The Pioneers are 5-4 at Kitty Magee Arena. TWU is scoring 64.1 points per game while limiting opponents to 58.9 points per game. The Pioneers lead the conference in scoring defense (58.9), field goal percentage defense (.359) and opponent free throw percentage (.722). Emily Spector is TWU's leading scorer at 12.1 points per game with three other Pioneers averaging at least 8.0 points per game. It will be the 54
th meeting all-time between the schools. ASU holds a 31-22 advantage in the series but are 1-3 in Denton in the last four matchups.
Texas A&M-Commerce is 6-5 on the season and 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lions have won their last two games and are 3-1 at home. TAMU-Commerce scored 66.8 points per game on 39.2-percent shooting but allows 68.9 points per game. La'Tisha Hearne and Princess both average double figures with 12.1 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. The Belles hold the overall series advantage at 42-22 and have won the last four games.
Jasmine Caston, who leads the Belles in scoring at 14.9 points per game, is third in the league in scoring. She had her ninth game in double figures and her 19 points against Tarleton State is the most since Nov. 30. She leads the team with 18 steals and second with 29 assists.
Jackie Patterson scored 18 points in the loss to Tarleton State. She has averaged 11.6 points per game and 6.3 rebounds. The senior had dished out 15 assists and scored in double figured in seven games.
Amanda Weaver added 14 points and five assists against TSU. It is her seventh game in double figures and the fourth time in the last five games. She has a career 3-point percentage of 39.4-percent which currently ranks her No. 3 on the ASU career list. She has shot 46.8-percent from behind the arc this season.
Shauna Coleman added six points off the bench for the Belles. The freshman has averaged 8.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in her first season.
Minja Savic, a transfer from Cal Albert State, scored six points and seven rebounds in her first action as a Belle. The Serbian native played two seasons at Cal Albert State before transferring.
Michelle Rosewell played 29 minutes in the conference opener dishing out two assists. She is third on the team with 21 assists on the season. She scored a career-high 12 points against Texas Woman's on Jan. 11, 2014.

Kietta Saunders saw action off the bench against Tarleton State. Herrera has played in 10 games this season and is fourth on the team with 20 assists. The freshmen duo has combined to score 31 total points. Saunders has eight assists on the season while Kelly has made two steals.
Leila Jdily-Ezzad saw her first action as a Belle after transferring from New Mexico Junior College. The junior started against Tarleton State and played 12 minutes. She recorded two assists and made one-of-two from the free throw line.
