Belles Welcome No. 17/24 Midwestern State to Junell Center

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will host No. 17/24 Midwestern State in a Lone Star Conference game at the Junell Center on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.

The Belles (7-16, 2-11 LSC) are coming off a 64-58 win over Texas Woman's this past Saturday at the Junell Center. ASU is 4-7 at home this season and scoring 64.4 points per game in Stephens Arena. ASU is two games ahead of Texas A&M-Kingsville with three games left for the final seed into the LSC Tournament Championship.

No. 17 Midwestern State enters with a record of 19-4 overall and 10-3 in the LSC. The Mustangs have won six of their last seven games and are 6-2 on the road this season. Dianna Jones and Andrea Carter are MSU's top scorers at 13.4 and 13.3 points per game. The duo scored 14 points each in the first matchup between the two schools. Carter also grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double. Lisa Hampton is the third Mustang in double figures at 10.0 points per game. MSU hits. 42.4-percent from the field and scores 70.8 points per game while holding opponents to a league low 58.9 points per game. 

ASU forced 17 turnovers and hit 46.2-percent from the 3-point line but was unable to stop the Mustangs in a 69-61 defeat in Wichita Falls. MSU was able to make 46.5-percent from the field and make 26-of-36 from the free throw line.

Diamalises Rivera has led ASU in scoring during conference play at 13.2 points per game. The junior from Puerto Rico has scored in double figures in seven-straight games. She has two games of at least 20 points but scored only seven against MSU in the first meeting. Rivera averaged 9.2 points per game this season with 4.3 rebounds. She has 17 assists with 11 steals and leads the team with 15 blocks.

Shauna Coleman scored a team-high 13 points in the first game with Midwestern State. The freshman is averaging 7.4 points per game and 6.8 against LSC opponents. She grabbed game-high 10 rebounds against Texas A&M-Commerce. She has seven games scoring in double figures and two with double-digit rebounds.

KeAnna Kelly has enjoyed a breakout season scoring 10.2 points per game during the conference schedule. The freshman has averaged 7.6 points per game during the season but all six of her games in double figures have come against LSC foes. The Arlington native had her streak of five-straight games in double figures snapped against Texas A&M-Commerce. She led all scorers the day before with 23 in the win over Texas Woman's.

Michelle Rosewell had a career night the last time ASU faced Midwestern State. The senior scored a career-high 13 points against the Mustangs. Rosewell went five-for-six form the field including 3-for-4 from the 3-point line. The Grapevine native is second on the team with 46 assists including 27 during conference games. She is the team leader with 25 steals on the season.

Leila Jdily-Ezzad had one of her better performances against MSU with nine points and two assists. The junior transfer is scoring 5.2 points per game this season. She tied her season high of 11 points against Texas A&M-Commerce. It was her third game in double figures this season. She has recorded 25 assists and made 15 steals this season.

Elaine Herrera had a breakout game against Texas A&M-Commerce. The junior scored a season-high 11 points with three-of-six from the 3-point line. The Midland native grabbed two rebounds in just nine minutes of action. She is scoring 2.1 points per game this season.

Minja Savic, Kietta Saunders, Jordan Whitaker, Shanna Taylor and Keva Raiford have all seen action in the last three games. Taylor sunk a big three pointer against Texas Woman's. Savic has scored in the last five games and tied a season high with seven rebounds in the win over TWU.

Amanda Weaver, who had been scoring 9.7 points per game and 9.8 in conference play, will be out with an injury. The junior leads the team with 42 three pointers and 47 assists.

The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
