SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will look to win its second consecutive Lone Star Conference road game at Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. local time in Portales, N.M.
The Belles (6-13, 1-8 LSC) dropped a 67-50 decision to No. 6 West Texas A&M on Wednesday. ASU is 2-5 on the road this season but is holding opponents to a .386 field goal percentage. Angelo State has a better field goal percentage (39.2-percent to 38.6-percent) and 3-point percentage (32-percent to 29.7-percent).
A freshman has become one of the main scorers for the Belles.
KeAnna Kelly has started the last seven games and averaged 9.1 points per game including a career-high 24 against WT. She has scored in double figures in the last two games and has three on the season. Kelly averages 5.5 points this season.
Diamalises Rivera turned in her fourth consecutive double-digit scoring game with 14 points against West Texas A&M-. She is scoring 7.7 points per game this season but is averaging 15.5 points per game in her last five games.
Amanda Weaver, the Belles leading scorer at 9.9 points per game, was held scoreless for the first time all season against West Texas A&M. The junior has 11 games in double figures this season and two games with at least 20 points. The Center Point native continues to lead the team in assists with 41.
Another freshman,
Shauna Coleman, has stepped up this season. She is averaging 7.6 points per game and leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per game. She has scored double figures in seven games and in three of the last four.
Leila Jdily-Ezzad started her third game of the season against West Texas A&M. She has dished out 19 assists in just three games while scoring 5.1 points per game.
Michelle Rosewell is tops on the team with 22 steals and second on the team with 38 assists.
Keva Raiford has provided a spark off the bench. She scored a season-high five points in the win over Texas A&M-Kingsville and dished out an assists and recorded one steal against WT.
Jordan Whitaker made three steals and scored two points in five minutes of action this past Wednesday.
Eastern New Mexico enters the game with a 7-12 overall record and 3-6 in the LSC. The Zias are 3-4 at home but are 1-4 in their last five games. ENMU exploded for 49 second half points to defeat the Belles 65-56 in the first meeting.
Tori Tucker, who scored 19 points in the first meeting, leads ENMU with a scoring average of 12.4. Sarah Stinenett is second on the team at 11.4 while Jasmine Johnson adds 7.2 points per game.
ASU leads 38-24 in the overall series and is 3-2 in the last five games in Portales, N.M. The last Belle victory in Portales came on Nov. 11, 2012.
