SAN ANGELO –The Angelo State women's basketball team will hit the road to face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. CST in Portales, New Mexico.
The Belles (9-4, 2-1 LSC) have won their last two games including an upset of No. 1 West Texas A&M. It was the first win over West Texas A&M since December of 2012 and just the second over the Lady Buffs since 2006. ASU will now look for its first road conference win of the season against ENMU.
Angelo State leads the LSC in scoring offense at 82.1-percent, offensive rebounds at 16.1 per game, assists per game (18.4) turnover margin (3.69) and assists to turnover ratio (1.23). ASU is second in the league in scoring margin (12.8), field goal percentage (.442), 3-point field goal percentage (.363), 3-pointers made (6.9), free throw percentage (.752) and rebounding defense (36.8). The Belles 18.4 assists per game is aided by eight players with at least 10 steals.Â
Eastern New Mexico is 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the LSC. ENMU scores 65.0 points per game and allows 66.6 points per game. Kassandra Harris and Sarah Stinnett lead the Greyhounds in scoring Harris is averaging 12.9 points per game while Stinnett scores 10.0. ASU holds a 38-25 all-time series leads but dropped both games last season. The last win in Portales for ASU was in November of 2012.Â
Brea Mitchell has been a big part of the Belles last two wins. She has averaged 20.0 points per game in the last two game including her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Texas A&M-Commerce. She has scored double figures in seven games this season and has a season average of 11.5. The senior is tied for the team lead in rebounds with 5.3 per game. The Plano native has added 31 assists and 10 steals on the season. Mitchell leads the team in field goal percent hitting 50.8-percent from the field.
Taylor Dorsey continues to lead the LSC in scoring at 17.2 points per game. She added to her season high total of 57 assists with seven in the win over West Texas A&M. The junior has scored in double figures in nine games this season. She also leads the team with 23 steals and collects 5.0 rebounds.
Jasmine Prophet is the third Belle averaging double figures scoring 10.6 points per game. The junior added 14 points and six rebounds against West Texas A&M. It is the Jackson, Mississippi native's seventh game in double figures. She is tied with Mitchell for the team lead in rebounds at 5.3 rebounds per game. Prophet leads ASU with 24 blocks and is second in the LSC. She is tops in the LSC in free throw percentage hitting 85.0-percent.
KeAnna Kelly has scored in double figures in three of the last four games for ASU. She scored 13 in the win over WT with 11 coming in the second quarter. She has made the most 3-pointers on the team with 23 on the season. The Mansfield native has dished out 31 assists and recorded 15 steals.
Diamlises Rivera has been efficient off the bench making 50.6-percent from the field. She is scoring 7.8 points per game and grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game. The senior is one of eight on the team with double-digit assists tallying 14 on the season.
Christina Robinson secured the victory against WT with a pair of free throws late. The junior has hit 10-of-11 (.909) from the charity stripe this season. She still leads the team with a .500 three pointer percentage sinking 11 on the season. Robinson has also contributed 32 assists and 16 steals on the season.
Lexi Murphy scored seven points and picked up a pair of pivotal offensive rebounds in the win over West Texas A&M. The junior averages 5.5 points per game. She has 18 assists and eight steals on the year.
Other key members off the ASU bench include Natalie Quesnel, Kiahna Thompson, and Nekeita Bailey. Quesnely scored 3.8 points and grabs 2.6 rebounds per game. Thompson has made nine 3-pointers on the year and averaged 3.4 points per game. Bailey has handed out 13 assists on the season and recorded nine steals.
