Belles Return to Court to Face Texas A&M-Kingsville

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team returns to the court to host Texas A&M-Kingsville at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.

The Belles (12-5, 5-2 LSC) have won five of their last six games and average a LSC best 82.1 points per game. The 82.1 points per game is the seventh most points scored per game in NCAA Division II. ASU is 9-1 at home and are in second place in the LSC. Angelo State also leads the conference in offensive rebounds (14.6), turnover margin (3.76), assist to turnover ratio (1.24) and assists (17.59). The 17.59 assists per game is No. 9 nationally while the 1.24 assist to turnover ratio is No. 13.

"I think if any team can get a couple days off in January that it is a really good thing," Angelo State head women's basketball coach Kevin Baker said. "The fact that the schedule fell that way for us is also a good thing, because the team was able to rest and get healed up a little bit. It has also been good for us mentally too regroup, refocus and re-energize. I'm excited about having that break and we actually are going to get another break towards the end of February going into the conference tournament as well. The scheduling really worked out well for us."

Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the game with a 5-12 record and 0-7 in the LSC. The Javelinas are led by Kaylin Roher's 12.1 points per game. TAMUK scored 55.6 points per game but allows 63.8 points per game.

"Texas A&M-Kingsville guards are very fast and they do a great job getting to the rim off the dribble," Baker said. "It's really just been a lot of preparation for them. We have installed a couple other things, but it's really just been preparation for Kingsville. They have got probably one of the best natural scorers in the league. Kaylin Roher is just a phenomenal scorer and the team just seems to feed off whether or not she plays well. They are also very scrappy defensively and they don't give up a lot of points. I look at them as a very dangerous team that can beat you if you don't play well."

ASU has been led in scoring by Taylor Dorsey. The junior's 17.5 points per game is tops in the LSC and she has scored at least 20 points in six games this season. The Fort Worth native has 13 games in doubles figures and leads the team with three double-doubles. She also leads the team in assists (65) and steals (32). Thompson has been a sharp shooter by hitting 13 three pointers. Her 41..9-percent from behind the arc is No. 3 on the team.  Quesnel has played in 11.3 minutes per game and scored 3.6 points per game.
