SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will play its final regular season game of the season on the road on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Belles are 18-7 and 11-4 in the LSC and with a win on Saturday would secure at least second place in the LSC and a first round bye in the LSC Tournament. If ENMU defeats West Texas A&M, than ASU would be co-champions and be the No. 1 seed in the LSC Tournament.
Angelo State leads the LSC in scoring (80.0), offensive rebounds (14.6) and assist to turnover ratio (1.27). The 1.27 assist to turnover ratio is No. 9 among NCAA Division II schools. ASU is also No. 2 in the conference scoring margin (9.1), field goal percentage (.438), 3-point field goal percentage (.350), 3-point field goal made (6.7), free throw percentage (.713) and assists (17.28). Angelo State is 5-4 on the road this season.
"We need to stay focused on Texas A&M-Kingsville and not look ahead," Angelo State head women's basketball coach Kevin Baker said. "Our goal is to win the game and it should be our focus. Every single road game except for one we have given ourselves a chance to win. That is all you can ask for and hopefully we can do that again."
Texas A&M-Kingsville is 5-20 on the season and 0-15 in the LSC. The Javelinas are scoring 5.48 points per game and allow 64.7 per game. Kaylin Roher leads TAMUK with 11.6 points per game. The Belles took the first meeting with Texas A&M-Kingsville 81-61.
"Texas A&M-Kingsville is a scrappy team," Baker said. "It will be there senior night and a lot of emotions for them. It is going to be a good game and they play everybody well. TAMUK has it in them to play a good game."
Taylor Dorsey has led the LSC in scoring all season and averages 16.9 points per game. The junior is coming off back-to-back double-doubles in consecutive days. She scored 37 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win over Midwestern State and the very next day scored 12 points and dished out 12 assists against TWU. It was her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the seasons. She leads ASU with 6.4 rebounds and is the only player in the LSC in the top five in points and rebounds. The Fort Worth native has scored double figures in 19 games. She also has five games with double-digit rebounds and two with double-digit assists. Dorsey has totaled 103 assists and 36 steals on the season. With seven more assists, Dorsey will move into the top 10 assists in a single season.
Prophet has scored in double figures in the last four games and is coming off a double-double against TWU. The junior has scored in double figures in 17 games with a career 33 points against Texas A&M-Commerce on the road. She averages 13.2 points per games and 5.8 rebounds. The Jackson, Mississippi native has 40 blocks and moved up to No. 6 on the ASU single season list.
Brea Mitchell is averaging 12.5 points per game and has scored in double figures in the last four games. The senior has 16 games in double figures. The Plano native is third on the team in rebounding with 5.2. She has dished out 71 assists and recorded 15 steals.
KeAnna Kelly scores 8.8 points per game and is third on the team with 25 steals. The sophomore leads the team with 36 three pointers and has collected 50 assists. The Arlington native has scored in double figures in nine games.
Christina Robinson is the team leader in steals with 38 on the season. She has 67 assists and scored 6.4 points per game. She is making 80.8-percent from the charity stripe and has hit 14 three pointers.
Diamalises Rivera is the top scorer off the bench with 6.6 points per game. She grabs 3.5 rebounds and dished out 13 assists. Lexi Murphy and Kiahna Thompson have both hit at least 20 3-pointers and are scoring over four points per game. Murphy has 23 three pointers and is leading the team with a 86.4-free throw shooting percentage. The junior scored 4.9 per game. Thompson has the best three-point shooting percentage at 42.3-percent and has scored 4.5 per game. Natalie Quesnel and Nekeita Bailey have also seen time off the bench. Quesnel averages 3.2 points while Bailey has dished out 20 assists and recorded 26 steals.
