No. 24 Belles Set to Host Tarleton State in White Out Game

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will try to extend its five game win stream as Tarleton State comes to Stephens Arena in the Junell Center on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

The Belles are 15-5 and 8-2 in the LSC and have won five straight overall and seven straight at home. The 15 wins are the most since the 2010-11 season. ASU leads the LSC in scoring offense (82.8), offensive rebounds (15.0), turnover margin (3.20) and assist to turnover ratio (1.24). Opponents are being held to 40.7-percent from the floor and average 71.3 points per game. ASU is a half-game behind West Texas A&M for first place in the LSC.

"I think the biggest change from the start of conference until now is confidence," Angelo State women's basketball coach Kevin Baker said. "We have been getting better every time we play and each win has built upon the next. The way our schedule fell it allowed us to build some confidence. When we beat No. 1 West Texas A&M it gave us tremendous confidence and to do it again on their home court solidified to our team that we can play with anybody in our conference."

Tarleton State enters the game at 12-9 with a 6-5 conference record. The TexAnns have won their last three and defeated the Belles 94-65 in Stephenville in ASU's conference opener. Bailey Wipff and Ikpeaku Iwobi lead the team in scoring with 14.0 and 10.0 points per game. TSU shot 57.7-percent in the first meeting and drained 10 three pointers. The 94 points is the most allowed is a loss this season.

"Tarleton State is a very interesting team," Baker said. "When they are on they are on. We caught them on a night when they couldn't miss. They were really playing well but they have gone through ups and downs this season. They are coming off a big win at Cameron where they played really well. They are well coached and will be very prepared."

Jasmine Prophet, the LSC Defensive Player of the Week, had an impressive week recording her first two double-double of her ASU career. She scored 18 points and 10 rebounds in the upset triple overtime win in Canyon against No. 6 West Texas A&M. The Jackson, Mississippi native followed it up with 17 points and a career high 15 rebounds. She has scored in double figures in seven straight games and 13 total. Prophet hits 49.5-percent from the field and averages 12.6 points per game with 5.6 rebounds per game.

"Jasmine has played better when Jasmine practices better," Baker said. "It is the stuff behind the scene that nobody sees. The minute she started having better practices she started playing better in games. Our whole team reaped the rewards for that. She wasn't practicing badly; she just took it to another level in practice."

Taylor Dorsey continues to lead the LSC in scoring at 17.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures in seven straight games and 16 this season. The junior is also tops on the team in rebounds per game (6.1) assists (82) and steals (34). She has made 26 three pointers on the season which is No. 2 on the team.
