SAN ANGELO – The No. 8/11 Angelo State women's basketball team will face Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 5:15 p.m. in Kingsville.
The Belles (14-2, 8-2 LSC) will try to rebound after suffering just its second loss of the season and first home loss since Feb. 10 of last season. Angelo State leads the LSC in scoring at 81.8 points per game and is second in field goal percentage and No. 14 nationally at 44.3. The Belles also lead the league in assists at 15.69 per game and ranks No. 25 nationally.
The Javelinas are 9-7 on the season and 4-6 in the LSC. The Belles defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville in the first meeting on Nov. 29 by a score of 84-59. Kaylin Roher is TAMUK's leading scorer at 12.0 points per game. Shaq Debose led the Javelinas in the first meeting with 10 points and she averages 3.8 points per game. TAMUK is 2-3 in its last five games.
Taylor Dorsey and Jasmine Prophet have led ASU in scoring. Dorsey is tops on the team at 18.5 per game and is No. 1 in the LSC. She also leads the LSC in assists (4.4 per game) and steals (2.3 per game). She has scored double figures in 13 games and in four of her last five. She has eclipsed the 20 point mark nine times. Prophet has come on as of late scoring in double figures in the last nine games. She averages 14.5 points per game and is No. 2 in the LSC in field goal percentage (.581) and No. 1 in free throw percentage (.825). The senior is also No. 10 nationally in field goal percentage and leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game. Prophet also leads ASU and is second in the LSC with 1.4 blocks per game. Â
Lexi Murphy and Christina Robinson are both scoring over eight points per game this season. Murphy is second on the team in 3-point shooting at a clip of .360. Murphy is second on the team in rebounding at 5.6 per game and is third on the team with 39 assists. Robinson had back-to-back 20 point performances prior to the Eastern New Mexico game. The senior is scoring 8.7 points per game and leads ASU in 2-point shooting at a .433 clip. She is second on the team with 41 assists and 23 steals.
Madi Greenwood plays in 24.6 minutes per game off the bench and is tied for most 3-pointers with 18 this season. The junior has scored 7.9 points per game while handing out 23 assists and recording 20 steals. She is third on the team with eight blocks with 3.3 rebounds.
Chenelle Pelle has provided a lift off the bench this season as well, scoring 7.6 points per game. The junior hits 54.7 percent from the field and has recorded 4.4 rebounds per game. She is second on the team with 12 blocks this year.
Brian Frierson and Keanna Kelly have started all 16 games for ASU and play over 20 minutes per game. Frierson averages 6.9 points per game and averages 4.3 rebounds per game. Kelly scored 6.3 points per game and has hit 30-of-35 free throws on the season. She has recorded 33 assists and 18 steals on the year.
Kiahna Curry, Bethany Ross and Shauna Coleman have provided depth for ASU this season off the bench. Curry has hit seven 3-pointers this season while Ross averages two points a game in conference play and grabbed 2.1 rebounds per game. Coleman is 7-of-9 from the free throw line. She has also grabbed 11 rebounds with 10 coming on the offensive end.
