SAN ANGELO – The No. 19 Angelo State women's basketball team hits the road for its final to regular season games against Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, Feb. 23 and Western New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The Belles (20-4, 14-4 LSC) are in second place in the LSC standings and trail ENMU by two games. ASU would have to win both games this weekend and have Texas A&M-Kingsville beat ENMU on Saturday to clinch a share of the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship.
"We know how important these two games are this week," Angelo State head women's baksebtall coach Kevin Baker said. "We have talked as a team what we need to do to be successful. We want to take it one game at a time and do the things we need to do to get better for the LSC and NCAA Tournament. There is a lot on the line for every team who is playing well this time of year and these two game will be no different."
Eastern New Mexico has a 20-5 overall record and 16-2 LSC record. The Greyhounds won in San Angelo 76-72 in overtime back on Jan. 21 in the first matchup. Western New Mexico is 4-21 and 0-18 overall and the Belles beat the Mustangs 100-52 in San Angelo earlier this season.
The Belles the LSC in scoring (80.3 points per game), turnover margin (4.50) and assist to turnover (1.10). The 80.3 points per game in No. 7 in Division II and ASU is top 20 in the nation in free throw attempted and made.
Taylor Dorsey leads ASU's scoring efforts with 17.2 points per game. The senior has scored in double figures in 20 games and leads the Belles in assists (102) and steals (49). She also has grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game and makes 46.9 percent from the field. She is only 70 points away from scoring 1,000 for her career.
Jasmine Prophet is the LSC leader and No. 12 nationally in field goal percentage hitting 57 percent. The senior has scored 14.0 points per game and averages 7.0 rebounds per game. She has scored in double figures in 18 games. She scored 17 and 20 against Western and Eastern in the first matchups. Prophet is the team leader in blocks with 40 and free throw percentage at 80.2 percent.
Christina Robinson has seen a scoring increase to 9.8 points per game. She has scored in double figures is six of her last seven games and has totaled 12 on the season. She is second on the team in assists with 67 and has also recorded 33 steals.
Madi Greenwood has come off the bench this season and scoring 8.8 points per game. The junior has handed out 34 assists and made 30 steals in 25.0 minutes per game. She has hit 42 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line.
Lexi Murphy has become a starter over the last few weeks and scored 8.0 points per game. The senior is second on the team in rebounds at 5.8 per game. Murphy leads the team in 3-pointers with 26 on the season. She is third on the team with 61 assists and made 222 steals. She recorded her first double-double of the season in the first matchup with ENMU with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Keanna Kelly is averaged 7.1 points per game and recorded double figures in the last two games. The junior has made 21 three pointers along with recording 44 assists and 24 steals.
Bria Frierson is fourth on the team in rebound at 4.0 per game and second on the team in blocks with 14. She is scoring 6.7 points per game while hitting 47.6 percent from the field. Also scoring down low for the Belles is Chenlle Pelle. The junior is averaging 6.7 points per game and grabs .37 rebounds. Pelle scored 15 points in the win over Western New Mexico and grabbed five rebounds against ENMU.
Kiahna Curry and Bethany Ross have seen time off the bench. Curry plays in 7.3 minutes per game and has scored 1.7 points per game. Ross averaged 8.0 minutes per contest and has scored 1.4 points per game.
