No. 20 Belles Ready to Open LSC Tournament Against Cameron

SAN ANGELO – The No. 20 Angelo State women's basketball team will enter the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and face the No. 7 seed Cameron in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2 at 12 p.m. at the Allen Events Center in Allen, Texas.

The Belles enter with a 22-4 record and shared the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2005. ASU will try to win back-to-back LSC Tournament Championships for the first time since WT performed the feat in 2014-15. This will be the third meeting all-time in the LSC Tournament between ASU and Cameron with the Belles winning the three previous matchups.

Angelo State and Cameron are the top two scoring teams in the LSC at 81.1 points per game and 78.8 points per game, respectively. ASU also leads the LSC in turnover margin (3.81) and assist to turnover ratio (1.11). The Belles 81.1 points per game is on pace for the most points in a single season. The Belles outrebound teams by 3.2 per game and force 4.2 more turnovers.

ASU has gone 2-0 against the Aggies and Cameron has an 11-15 overall record. CU scored 74.0 points per game in the two games and was held to .337 shooting from the field. The Aggies did average 7.0 three pointers in the two games but only made 26.9 percent from behind the arc.

Taylor Dorsey and Jasmine Prophet have led ASU in scoring not only against Cameron but all season. Dorsey, the LSC Offensive Player of the Week, is just 22 points away from becoming the 18th player in ASU history to score 1,000 in her career. She is scoring 17.7 points per game while averaging 19.5 per game versus Cameron. She leads the team in assists at 4.12 per game (107 total) and steals 1.49 per game (53 total). She also grabs 4.7 rebounds per game. Dorsey has scored 20 points in 11 times including 22 in Oklahoma. She is ranked in the top 10 on the ASU career lists in scoring average (17.2) and assists (227).

Prophet is scoring 14.2 points per game while leading the team with 6.9 rebounds per game and 44 blocks. Against the Aggies, the senior has scored 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds. The Mississippi native has five double-doubles on the season including a 17 points 12 rebound performance at Cameron. She leads the team in field goal percentage (.576) and is second in free throw (.796). The field goal percentage is on pace for third best in a single season in ASU history. She is ranked in the top 10 on the ASU career list in scoring average (14.2), field goal percentage (.527), free throw percentage (.763) and blocks (95).

Fellow senior Christina Robinson is averaging a career high 10.1 points per game. She has scored in double figured in five straight games and in eight of her last nine. She is leading the team in three point percentage at .460 and is second on the team in assists 2.96 per game (77 total) and steals 1.42 per game (37 total). In the two matchups with Cameron, Robinson scored 9.5 points per game with nine assists and two steals.

Madi Greenwood has scored 8.6 points per game coming off the bench. She is one of four players with at least 10 blocks and she has 30 steals and 39 assists. The junior is one of five players with at least 20 three pointers with 26.

Lexi Murphy is fifth on the team with 8.2 points per game and second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. She scored 9.5 in the two games against Cameron and was 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Two of her three double-digit rebounding games have come against the Aggies with an 11.5 average. She is third on the team with 28 three pointers. The Nebraska native has also dished out 69 assists and made 24 steals.

Keanna Kelly has scored 7.1 points per game and hit 22 three pointers this season. She has grabbed 2.9 rebounds while recording 25 steals and 46 assists. The junior has averaged 7.5 points per game.

Bria Frierson has started 25 games this season with 6.9 points per game. She has averaged 3.9 rebounds per contest with 24 steals. The junior has 48.6 percent from the field.

Chenlle Pelle, Kiahna Curry and Bethany Ross have seen time off the bench. Pelle scores 6.1 points per game in 11.1 minutes per game. She makes 49.1 percent from the field and averages 3.5 rebounds per game. Curry has scored 1.6 points per game while Ross chips in 1.3 per game. 

The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call. The winner of Angelo State and Cameron will face the winner of No. 3 West Texxas A&M and No. 6 Texas Woman's at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.
