Belles Ready for Final Home Regular Season Games

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will host its final home regular season games on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico and senior day will be prior to the Saturday, Feb. 24 game with tip-off at 2 p.m.

The Belles (19-5, 14-4 LSC) are tied for first place in the Lone Star Conference with two games left. If ASU wins both games, they will clinch at least a share of the LSC title. West Texas A&M, who is tied with ASU, will face Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State this week. The LSC Tournament Championship starts next week in Frisco, Texas.

The Belles won the first games with ENMU and WNMU in New Mexico. ASU won 74-52 over Western New Mexico and hung on for a 62-59 victory in Portales.

Angelo State will recognize four seniors prior to the Saturday's 2 p.m. game with Western New Mexico.  The group includes Marquita Daniels, Ekiya Gray, Madi Greenwood and Keanna Kelly.

Daniels has played one season but is looking to leave her name in the record book. The senior is 10 steals away from tying Kelly Clark for most steals in a single season with 95. She leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and assists with 77. She is No. 7 nationally in total steals with 85 and No. 3 in steals per game at 3.70. She has recorded a career high 29 points twice this season against MSU and UTPB.

Ekiya Gray has made the most of her season with the Belles. The senior has played in 15 games averaging 10.7 points per game. She also grabs 8.l8 rebounds per contest to go along with 26 assists and 26 steals. The Houston native scored a career high 15 versus Texas A&M-Commerce and Illinois Springfield this season and has three double-doubles.

Madi Greenwood has played two seasons for the Belles. This year she has scored 8.9 points per game and made 27 3-pointers. She has recorded 54 assists and 16 steals while starting 22 games. For her career, the Kansas native scored 8.3 points per game and hit 58 3-pointers. She has 101 total assists and 51 steals for her career.

Keanna Kelly has played in 110 games going into her final two regular season matchups of her career.  She has scored 898 points and averaged 8.2 points per game. She has 200 assists and 100 steals during her four years and has been a part of the last two NCAA Division II Tournament teams. She has made 137 three-pointers and has hit 76.6 percent from the charity stripe. This season she is scoring 8.8 points per game and leads the team with 36 three pointers.

De'Anira Moore is second on the team in scoring this season at 12.4 with 12 double-doubles to her credit. The sophomore leads ASU with 9.5 rebounds per game. It is the best rebounding average since Christina Johnson in 2004-05. She has 80 blocks on the year and is 23 away from tying Natalja Tsurbakova for most in a single season.

Dezirae Hampton is third on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game. She has scored at least 10 points in 19 games this season. Her 7.2 rebounding average give the Belles three players over 7.0 rebounds per game. She has also recorded 45 assists and 24 steals on the year.

Mikayla Blount, Kynese Davis, Dearria Watson and Aaliyah Warren have provided quality depth. Blount has hit 20 3-pointers on the season and scored 4.1 points per game. Davis has the third most assists with 48 on the year while scoring 3.9 points per game. Watson has seen action in 10 games this year scoring 1.7 points and Warren has played 10 games scoring 28 total points.

The games will be broadcasted on RamTV Suddenlink Channel 6 and heard locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
