SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team (18-4, 13-3 Lone Star Conference) will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend as they take on Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin.
The Belles are led by senior guard Marquita Daniels, who averages 16.2 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.1 steals per contest. De'Anira Moore joins her in double figures with 14.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game on 54.4 percent shooting from the field. Dezirae Hampton also averages double figures with 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from the three point line.
ASU has had several other strong contributors this season, including Maria Delgado, Asia Davis, Catara Samuel, Essence Johnson, and Mikayla Blount. Delgado averages nine points and 5.4 rebounds per contest while leading the Belles from behind the three point line at a 38.5 percent clip. Davis averages eight points and 2.6 rebounds per game while leading the Belles from the free throw line, shooting at an 81 percent clip. Samuel averages 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest. Johnson averages 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while leading the Belles from the field, shooting at a 60 percent clip. Blount averages 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 35.5 percent from the three point line.
On the season, the Belles averages 76 points per game while giving up 60. They out shoot their opponents by six percent on average and out shoot them from three by five percentage points. Additionally, they outrebound their opponents by an average of seven rebounds per contest.
Western New Mexico comes into Thursday's contest with a record of 9-14 (5-11 Lone Star Conference). The Mustangs are just 2-7 on the road this season.
UT Permian Basin comes into Saturday's contest with a record of 4-20 (1-15 Lone Star Conference). The Falcons are 1-11 on the road this season.
