Rambelles Fall in LSC Tournament Quarterfinals

FRISCO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team travelled to the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas to take part in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, where the Belles lost to the No. 3 seeded Lubbock Christian Chaparrals, 91-65.
The Belles are now 18-10 overall.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • Catara Samuel would start the first quarter off with a jumper to gain a 2-0 lead over the Chaparrals.
  • LCU would quickly take a 7-2 lead over Angelo State, but a three pointer from Sawyer Lloyd would cut the Chaps lead to two, 7-5.
  • A layup from the Chaparrals would bring their lead to four points, but another three pointer from Asia Davis would cut the lead back down to one, 9-8.
  • A layup from De'Anira Moore kept the Chaps lead to just one point, 11-10.
  • A three pointer from Samantha Rocha tied the game up at 13-13 with 2:12 left in the first quarter.
  • A layup from Moore, assisted by Davis, cut the Chaps lead down to two points, 17-15.
 
Second Quarter:
  • Lubbock Christian would keep the Belles from scoring in the first two minutes of the second quarter, jumping to a 10 point lead over ASU, 25-15.
  • A three pointer from Lloyd and a jump shot from Moore cut the Chaps lead down to seven points, scoring the first amount of points for ASU in the second quarter, 27-20.
  • Another three pointer from Samuel, with the assist from Lloyd, cut the Chaps lead even further to four points, 27-23.
  • Two free throws from Davis and a layup from Moore tied the game back up at 27-27.
  • LCU would quickly regain a five point lead over the Belles, but a jump shot from Samuel cut it back down to three points, 32-29.
  • The Chaps would hit several jump shots and extend their lead to 13, but a jumper from Moore would cut their lead down to 11, 42-31.
 
Third Quarter:
  • A layup and three pointer from the Chaps extended their lead to 16, but a jump shot from Moore cut the lead down to 14, 47-33.
  • Another layup from Moore cut LCUs' lead down to 12, 47-35.
  • Moore would sink a free throw to cut the Chaps lead to 15, but LCU would sink another layup to bring their lead back to 17. However, Megan Guadian would sink a three pointer to cut the Chaps lead down to 15 points with 2:18 left on the clock, 61-46.
  • LCU would make a layup and extend their lead to 17, but another layup from Moore cut their lead back down to 15, 63-48.
 
Fourth Quarter:
  • Lubbock Christian would keep the Belles from being able to score for over five minutes, hitting shot after shot to extend their lead to 36 points over the first five minutes, 84-48.
  • Two free throws from Moore and a layup from Samuel cut the Chaps lead to 32, scoring the first amount of points n over five minutes for the Belles, 84-52.
  • A second chance layup and free throw from Moore cut the lead down further to 29, 84-55.
  • ASU would go on a nine point run and cut the Chaps lead down even further to 27 with two made free throws from Samuel, 84-57.
  • A layup from Patricia French and a three pointer from Perrine Manoury cut the Chaps lead down to 26, 88-62.
  • ASU would attempt a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter against the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals, but LCU's shooting abilities and defensive skills would end the game for the Chaps, 91-65.
 
Key Players:
  • De'Anira Moore showed her offensive capabilities for the Belles, scoring 26 points for the Belles. Moore shot 11-22 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Moore grabbed six total rebounds, four on offense and two on defense, along with grabbing one assist and one steal.
  • Catara Samuel also showed her offensive prowess against the Chaps, scoring 13 points for Angelo State. Samuel shot 5-9 from the field, 1-2 from the three point line, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Samuel six defensive rebounds, along with three assists and one steal.
